It is a bit of a shame to cover up such a good quality paint job. But it's a greater shame that someone didn't just paint that thing they even signed it! If it had just been the purple feathers, that as a girly-girl I could've lived with. But the beak was a big turn-off, and we've established the eyes were just creepy. As in really creepy. VERY really total creep-out creepy. I'm not a fan of black (aren't as visible and show EVERY SINGLE GRAIN OF DIRT!!) but it does look like you did a great job on it. Enjoy the manliness of riding a non-birdy menace bike! Oh, say, that gives me an idea! heh heh heh... >'Kat It was either re-paint or get rid of the scooter. It looked ridiculous. The only reason I bought it was because it was a Kymco and it had pretty low mileage for the year. When I first got the bike I decided to rate it on the manly scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being John Wayne manly and 10 being Ru Paul fabulous. It rated about a 7 or 8 before. Now I rate it about a 2. It would have to have machine guns mounted on it in order to get a real John Wayne 1.

Looking good. I might have kept some of the red in there (whole red stripes or body parts), but this is definitely killed the parrot and looks sort of ninja-ish. Certainly more masculine...
If I ever drop my scoot and mess up the panel paint, this is certainly a way to get back to something visibly satisfying.

The trouble was that all of the paint had airbrushed feathers in it. When you looked at it up close there was a lot of pink and purple in it. It was a scooter that Ru Paul or Liberace would have felt right at home on. So it all had to go.

Looks nice. It has a stealth fighter look now.

Looks really nice,,now you can accent it with some gold or chrome plated parts...a little bit of Armour all is all you need to shine it up a bit if you want.

All done. Finished up the handlebars last night. The whole bike is painted. No more a RU PAUL scoot. It's not perfect, but I really don't care. Anything is better than the pink and purple feathers and a stupid green beak. Here are the last pics of the completed job. Not bad for a complete amateur if I do say so myself. The scoot looks nice. I'd hate to see you ruin it with some strategically placed pinstripe work.

I agree, no pinstripes.
Or wait. Just thought--maybe some edging in a glossier black. That might look pretty slick, satin or gloss black accent lines on the flat black. Black on black. Could be neat....

I think the matte black finish really IS like a stealth fighter. While riding around town today, I had not 1 but 2 different idiots on 4 wheels move right into my lane with me IN IT! I definitely seem to be a lot more invisible on the road. On the other hand, the stealth scootie attracted a lot of pedestrian attention as I rode by. I saw more than just a few people turning to gawk as I rode by. I'm not sure if they were marveling at the scooter or if there was some other more unflattering reason for their rubber necking. It could have been the farty sounds I make with my mouth as I pass by pedestrians. I do that A LOT. And then I laugh and laugh for a half mile down the road after I passed them. I'm not kidding. That's a true story!

GOOD Grief!
I don't just LIKE it... I LOVE it! I had NO idea it would look so contemporary AND radical, yet in a mega-simplistic way. I have a feeling a whole LOT of other riders will be following your lead here. That deserves another bone!
While it looks great without the trunk, being your main vehicle you'll probably still put the top-box back on. If you do, here are some pix of the wiring I promised. Pretty simple actually...
You definitely CAN get strip LED's at auto supply stores and they're great quality. They ARE a little pricey, and selections are limited, but it's convenient. I guess I've been buying and selling on eBay for SO many years that I'm just spoiled by the low prices and having the stuff delivered to my door... Most LED's come direct from China, and the incredible variety to choose from is SO appealing... LOL! Just me...
Your blacked-out look is SO slick, I wouldn't do very much trim... Several good ideas were posted from others like a little chrome or gold, or maybe some gloss-black. I'd definitely paint the calipers red, but I'd try to do that without removing them... A real PIA... Careful masking, clean up slopped paint with carb-cleaner, etc. Yeah, a tad crude, but done with care it would look OK. I just HATE removing calipers... LOL!
Just the edges of the rims edged with red striping tape would stand out. Really though, it looks just fine "as-is". Total simplicity!
You DID notice that you are nearly "invisible"... LO not so L... That's the "downside" to the stealth look, but WHAT A LOOK! A whole lot better than the birdie, and whole lot cheaper!
GREAT JOB!
Leo
PS: The exhaust now looks PERFECT with the paint! At least the "Parrot Lady" got THAT right... LOL!

Hey thanks Leo! I really worked my tail off on that bike to get the paint done. It's not perfect by any means. There are areas that I screwed up because I was hurrying, or not paying close enough attention, or whatever. But perfection need not apply. I wasn't going for perfect. I was going for no more FLUFLU birdie crapola. I love the Dinksta, but not the paint job. Just like an overbearing mother-in-law, it just HAD to go. I'm really kind of shocked that it turned out as well as it did! Thanks for the bone! I'll add it to my bone collection! As far as the LED's go, I'm going to run down to the parts store tomorrow and see what I can rustle up. I really should have done it today, but I was stuck in L-A-Z-Y mode all day. This week is the last of my lazy time off between jobs. Tomorrow is my last hoorah. Starting next Monday I'm going to work for a new company. I'm really excited to get started with the new job, but I'll have to say goodbye to all the leisure time I've had over the last 5 or 6 weeks. So I have tomorrow and this weekend to get all the led stuff installed and wired up. I'll probably be asking dumb questions, and making dumb mistakes on it, but that's half the fun. I love to tinker in the garage. So it should be fun if nothing else.

Aw. Too bad you painted the chicken. You could've just gotten a parrot instead and had matching pet to ride.
Ick.
I'm thinking the new Dinkster looks very Batmanish. Like what he'd drive when he needs quick agile transportation through the streets. And then he pushes a button, and the howitzer comes out.....
