A friend just picked up a non op 139qmb scoot. I tore down the carb, cleaned it, put fresh gas in and verified spark. For some odd reason this scoot will still not start! Not even on starter fluid! Its boggling my mind. Sometimes it sounds like its trying but nothing comes of it.

The scoot has 1600mi. Valves check out with the beer can trick (couldnt find my feelers). And compression checks out. I have not checked timing yet.

Were did you check for spark on the motor or on the frame if on the frame that is not good it has to spark on the motor. 1. So make sure the motor is grounded to the frame 2. When cranking and it won't start take the plug out and see if it is WET OR DRY. a. If wet the plug is not firing b. If it did not fire and the plug is DRY then your not getting fuel into the motor 3. Make sure the Air cleaner is on, if off it is sucking in to much air and not enough fuel. 4. Check Compression, take plug put and stick your finger in the hold and OPEN and hold the throttle wide open and crank it. IF it has descent compression it will LIFT your finger off if not then could be bad rings or valves not adjusted right or internal problem with the motor, blown piston etc.. Alleyoop

Cleaning a carb does not mean it working . Pull the carb back out and dribble some fuel into the cylinder while cranking . If it stumbles it's your carb .

It could be something silly like flipping the kill switch back to the run position. Most get caught by that one at least once or twice.

Compression is fine. Plug comes out wet. I check for soark by grounding the plug to the valve cover. It would not spark at all if it were the kill switch. Im going to go out and pull the covers to check the timing.

So I am checked the timing, it is spot on. I put in a new coil as I know im getting fuel but that didnt help at all either. Maybe the cdi is sending out the spark at the wrong time?

Unscrew the cap plug from the coil, cut 1/4 inch of the wire then screw the cap plug back.

OK no more fooling around get a video of you trying to start it. If it cranks and the plug is wet only two possible things the plug is not firing or it is flooding and a Video with sound will tell. Alleyoop

Just because you cleaned a carb does not mean its good ! I have pulled plugs from a running scooter after trying to start with the coil off and the plug was dry , put it back in put the coil wire on and started right up .

So, I took another whack at it. I was taking video to show the plug wet but this time it came out dry! Is there a way I can test the fuel petcock before I replace the carb. Mind you I actually got it to stumble a bit by hand choking the carb.
