So what kind of thing might be restricting my RPMs? I have a Uni filter and a drilled out exhaust. ScootDg CDI with no rpm limit (supposedly). The big variator & 11 gr sliders (I did NOT lubricate the slider ramps ... hope that is OK). 115 jet in stock carb. Everything else is stock. Valves are adjusted to .005. All unneeded vacuum hoses gone. I'm doing SOMETHING very wrong .... If you don't mind me asking how much do you weigh? In my opinion your setup is fine nothing wrong . There is no way to tell what size weights one should be running . It's different for all setups . So it's very hard for me to say " hey something is wrong because you have to use 9.5 gram weights " now I did say that not long ago about someone using 8 gram weights . But I found out pretty quick when I got my new variator that I had to drop below 10 grams . So it was obviously the variator .

175.
and my rpms are maybe, if anything, dropping --- now 6500 to 6800. Seems almost impossible to hit 7000

I'm not one to say I'm the best at this or that and so on , but when it comes to the cvt tuning I've probably done it more in the past 3 yrs then anyone on here . The setup I had was a belts worse nightmare , I was constantly adjusting the roller weight as my belts would ware to keep my rpms below 8000 . I have since dropped the 1500 rpm springs for stock springs to prolong the life of my belts and to take some stress off the cvt . That's why I use gates Kevlar belts, I've never had one break and I usually replace them after 3000 miles after I would have to raise the weights to 13 grams to stay under 8000 rpms . guy I bought the scooter from have me 2 cheap Kevlar belts and my cvt tore one to shredds in under 300 miles , it was probably more like 100 miles but I'm not sure . The other one is in a box and will never be used unless I have no other choice . Now that I eased the tension on the cvt a little I'll probably keep the belt in longer . I have about 12 spare gates Kevlar belts to call back on if I ever have to . Iwish I was close enough to help you out we'd have it tuned and running perfect in no time .

I'm not to concerned about it dropping due to the variator being new . Did you mark the variator to see how high the belt is traveling . Because if it did slightly raise that will lower your rpms .

The same thing happened to mine but I thought it was caused by something else . As the variator breaks in it may pull the belt up a little higher. So don't be alarmed . As the variator breaks in the boss becomes more lubricated the ramps become broken in and the variator face becomes more tacky " lack of a better word "

The whole scooter has only 700 miles on it (2 months), so that's how old the belt is (photo on prior page).
Maybe I have the thing so poorly tuned it's just not putting out enough power to drive higher rpms ?
Have not yet taken the side cover off again to mark the variator. Will do so tomorrow morning.
Kind of feeling like a scooter wash out!

You are NOT supposed to grease the variator ramps, are you ? (I didn't)

Sorry, Alley - I guess I must have totally missed your comment. Did not intentionally ignore it, for sure. Seriously, just trying to understand, learn and get this solved.

I DID see your comment (to Alley) where you said you were getting 8000 rpms (jealous). Then you said, "So if you have 11 gram weights in there and only getting under 7K rpms something is not right. "
So I'm just trying to understand and get it fixed.

You say your scoot is hitting 55 mph ? Is this from the speedo or is this varified 55 mph ? Do you have any bogging or hesitating ? Also of you over fill the engine oil it will not run as strong . When it comes to the carb tuning what you want to do is turn the throttle " idle" screw so tha the scoot idles a little high " maybe 2000 rpms " then turn the air fuel screw until you get the highest rpms you can , after that back the idle screw back down to about 1700 . That's if your worried about the carb tuning .
