I have always been amazed at what a VERY shallow downhill stretch can do... LOL! My old, and well-tweaked Xingyue 150 would run just shy of 60mph wide-open on a truly flat road, with no wind. (On a cool night, it would make it to 62 or so). But on a local road which went under a slightly elevated railroad bridge the old scoot would break 70 mph! ...Then, drop back to 52-54 going up the other side... And it was only about a 3% grade.
A 150cc engine is about 9 cubic inches, and, a strong one will put out nearly 10hp stock, maybe 12hp warmed up a little, or with a big-bore kit. THAT is a LOT of power for the little engine. The fact that only 9 cid will propel a 230 pound scooter AND 200 pound rider (235 in my case) to anywhere near 60mph is pretty amazing to begin with!
The fact that such small engines ARE as fast as they are, also means they operate "on the edge" of their MAXIMUM capability, and slight variables have more effect on them... Things like cool air, tailwinds, downhills, and engine mods give noticeable speed increases. Small variables like hot air, uphills, and headwinds give noticeable speed decreases.
I think the larger the engine size, the less noticeable small variances make, the smaller the engine, the more effect the same factors apply.
All things considered, I think you have a very good-running scooter... ENJOY IT!
Ride safe,
Leo in Texas

I guess everyone's setup varies on how it's setup especially the cvt , I have mine maxed out so I usually only gained about 3 mph from a hill of that degree , I was shocked when I gained 6 mph .

Ride safe,Leo in Texas Yep, so true Leo, I have a couple slight declines here one just over a highway then it flattens out for a good stretch not much of a decline on the other side and a very short decline to boot and it easly picks up 5mph before it flattens out coming down the slight decline. I have put up a few videos of me riding down that street going to my brother-in-laws house and videoed the tach and mph. I do not run and like high rpms so the setup I have is up to 7000 rpms, running 12g Dr. Pulley Sliders. Very rarely do I run with the throttle wide open, I have the throttle marked where it is wide open, once up to speed I back off and the throttle is half or 3/4 open only and it will hold speed nicely and the motor is just purring. Alleyoop,
I've found the same phenomenon with my old 150. After experimenting with rollers, I too ended up with a similar weight, and corresponding rpm. I'm finding my "new" old Kymco 250 acts the same way, just has more overall power. Next season, I may try messing with the variator on "Minnie Mouse" too... The old 250 runs SO good, from idle to WOT that I hesitate to fool with it, but... I got great results with the 150, and I'm thinking just the right combination of sliders might make the old girl even better.
It's hard to resist messing with these... LOL!
Ride safe!

Yeah that's sounds right , with this small of a decline I maxed out at about 7900 to 8000 rpms about 1/2 to 3/4 way before the radar sign so 5 to six mph sounds right . Also I have my rpms set to hit the power band near 7500 rpms on a straight run so when I hit a hill " decline " I don't have much left , compared to someone maybe hitting near 7000 rpms and under on a straight run then as they hit a decline an enter into the power band they are going to pick up much more . So yeah that makes complete sense to me also .
Also thAnks oldchoper , she does run good especially for a 58.5 bbk . You would nt expect to hit 73 mph at " let's say 8000 rpms" with 9.5 gram rollers . You would expect to be more like 9000 rpms with that light of weights . What's also nice is being able to pull away from cars at the stop lights with the 9.5 rollers and the 2000 main spring . It was hard to tell in the vids " of course the night time video I pulled out onto uphill " but the first 68 mph run there was a car beside me to my left .

You know what the bike will do and don't need to chance an automatic one year loss of license to prove it. Fines and penalties are doubled in a construction zone even if there is only one worker present to check that all the flashing lights were working.
My bike will do pretty much 100 mph on a flat road however which I found out by accident going with the flow however I am not going to intentionally run it up to 100 on a 25 or 30 mph road in a construction zone to prove it with a video. Enjoy your bike, you don't need to beat on it or chance a vary pricey fine to prove anything to anyone here.
Have fun, be safe and stay legal!

Thanks for the reply , I'd never show my face or plate on a video like this and post it , the town police sit on that rd a lot but you can see them from far away so I'm not to worried about getting pulled over . Is it dumb " yeah " is it fun " yeah " also I really like to show others what is possible with a 58.5bbk . The normal speed limit is 45 on this rd which runs about 40 miles or so and not many follow the limit , that's the whole reason I started the mods on the scoot . When the scoot was stock I'd have cars on my a-s and or passing me as I was runnin wot at 55 mph . So you kinda learn to run a little fast to keep up with traffic here . Of course that's not saying I won't get pulled over . Thanks again for the reply .

... the town police sit on that rd a lot but you can see them from far away so I'm not to worried about getting pulled over ... I've a cousin who's a state trooper, and several city-cop acquaintances. They've all mentioned if you can see the police, they've already radared you. ... Doesn't matter if absolutely nobody follows the limit. Just means the cops someday might set up a trap and ticket everyone. Mom's dad was going to work, very early morning with no traffic. The one car in front of him blew the stop sign. Pappa of course fully stopped, checked, then proceeded. The first car was sitting around the corner, pulled to the side. Turned out to be a cop, seeing if Pappa would also run the stop. But Pappa believed if it was a law, it must be obeyed. He also believed everyone else would likewise obey all laws--"He must stop, he has a stop sign." "But Dad, that doesn't mean he actually will stop." "He must, it's the law." While I do sometimes "go with the flow," I at least try to keep close to the speed limit. Of course, you do what you want. Just try to stay safe, geh! >'Kat

Right now its the first day of the school year and they have been making examples of folks on the bus routes since the middle of last week. Another thing to be aware of. I left 10 minutes early and got to work just on time.
Just don't take chances because someone here spoke out of turn or gave you a hard time about your bike even if its not Italian. Most here will be treating you like family which will always include a bit of ribbing. It's all in good fun for the most part.

I drive a little fast in a car sometimes as long as my kids are not with me or I'm in a residential neighborhood iv always been this way " I'm 35 and have been driving for 19 yrs and have never been in an accident ". " yes I'm knocking on wood " Also I can see the cop far before he has me on radar , unless they just don't give a u know what about the limit " highly unlikely " and as for the entrapment story , I'm up for a good entrapment case .lol Thanks again .

To be honest I've been riding my scoot hard for a while now " I have a speed issue "lol . And I think at this point it's more about others knowing what is possible . I've had yrs now to prove the point just for that reason " to prove a point " but I haven't . Lately I've been reading plenty about carb size , bbk size and what's possible , and I just want the facts out there . Thanks a lot for the reply .

I am almost 60 and the 19 year old inside still has to be chastised from time to time (Kat will pitch in and take care of that if the 19 year old boy takes over and goes too far).
Good thing you don't have a 250 like mine or better if your a speed freak.
You can do some scary things with the 4 valve, fuel injected Piaggio 250. Just with the Dr Pulley Sliders, keeping it maintained and sitting on correctly inflated tires one profile step larger it will ride along side (many times ahead of) the 600cc Sport Bikes well enough and blows away most of the lower compression 250cc 2 valve motorcycles.
Imagine what would happen with a ported and polished Mallosi 4 valve head and a 278cc cylinder, GPR free flow exhaust with custom header and an injector nozzle from a 400cc throttle body. Up the pressure regulator on the fuel rail and put a Ducati tuner on the computer along with slightly taller gears, raise the rpm limiter a few hundred via the Axiom computer interface cleaning up the fuel trims a bit and you are closing in on Chesterfield type performance without the drivability issues while still maintaining reliability.
While a 130+ mph 250cc sleeper scooter could be great fun I would then have to deal with glares of disapproval from Kat standing there in her "PINK" Jacket [Pepto Abysmal?]. You know her arms are crossed now as she is standing there shaking her head wondering what to do to save us from ourselves.
