Yes I was. And I want the video of the cow-napping. Except if you're videoing it, doesn't that mean technically someone sees you?

You have to watch out for cows that have or are about to calf as they can get quite aggressive with strangers. Watch out for Sanhe (short horns pointing straight forward) their horns are great for the straight on attack and they will slam you right into a fence post with them. A long stalk of grass however just tapping them on the side of the head is all you need to drive them once things have calmed down.

I imagine they have a pretty hard bite ! Cows do not have an upper row of front teeth just a dental pad or tough gums so they do not bite as a defense mechanism. They may try to groom you with their mouths or may clamp on a finger if you stick it in their mouths (bad manners will not be tolerated) however they are typically not biters. Stomp, kick or gore you (in the case of breeds which have horns) yes but bite, no that would not be a typical response. The smallest breeds of dairy cows weigh in at 600+ lbs while the larger cross purpose cows can weigh in at 1,800 lbs so The typical 1000 lb cow with horns does not need to bite to defend itself anyway.

Thank god , just goring and stomping . Lol that would have been a hoot . Maybe they would have thrown in a bite here and there to be nice . First defense for them is flight. Once they are in flight mode just stay out of the way. With only one or two in mild flight you can still direct then with a gentle tap on the side of the head from a switch or even long stalk of grass. You are better off though not invading their pasture if they are not your cows and they do not know you.

Yeh , I never met the cows that chased us that night . Next time I'll be sure to introduce myself before intruding . I wonder if I brought a cow with me to vouch for me if that would be ok ? Problem is that I don't know any cows so I'd first have to be introduced to a cow " or two " so I can then ask if they will accompany me to another pasture to vouch for me . Then again I can just go to that other pasture one day " when I'm not working " " or after work " and introduce myself a couple days in advance so that they would recognize me later . Do you think I should have my friends with me when I introduce myself so that they will recognize them also or will my word that my friends are cool be enough ?

Ha, your on your own invading someone elses pasture at night. Wrong time for introductions then. If its not your pasture and their not cows you work with then you just stay clear especially once it starts getting dark out.

I think you're lucky there weren't any bison in that pasture. A family friend had a small herd of bison, and you did NOT go into their field if they didn't know you! Period.
Although maybe bison are biters. I'll admit my knowledge of bovines is pretty limited to loving milk and a good juicy steak. Oh, and ribs. And burgers. Stuff made from milk. My white leather motorcycle jacket.
