I was wondering if anyone has or is running Rotella in their scooters.
Here is why I ask, for years, I've been a fan of Castrol. I've used it in everything. My 1991 Jimmy, and All of my scooters. I don't run it in the Ridgeline I own as it goes to firestone for it's oil changes and it gets Kendle Synthetic blend.
Recently, I purchased a 1982 Gold-wing that needed some work. After putting it back together and changing the oil with Castrol 4t 10w40 (10w40 is what Honda recommends for this bike), I was reading the gold-wing forums and they recommended running Rotella T 15w40. Keep in mind the honda spec was written probably in the 70's for the original 1000cc gold-wing. Oils have changed quite a bit in 38 years (the first gold-wings came out in 76), so I figured I'd give it a go. I usually don't go against what Mother Honda says, but these guys have a ton of miles on gold-wings and they just don't wear out if taken care of.
Man, what a difference, the trans shifts smoother, a lot of the valve train noise went away, and it just made the bike run much better. Even some of the gear box noise calmed down a bit. The clunk from neutral to first is not as pronounced and while the trans is still crude and clunky compared to the modern gold-wings, it feels tons better more like what I expect from a bike with Japanese DNA.
Any one try it in a scooter or have some thoughts on this? Just the fact that the valve train noise is reduced would make me want to use it as they do tend to get noisy when they get warm.

Depends on the bike. Might try it in a GY6 or a looser older bike but on the Aprilia I would stay with a Synthetic Motorcycle/Scooter Oil. Those engines are pretty tight on the tolerances and Piaggio the last time I called and spoke with their costumer service engineer was very adamant to use motorcycle or scooter formulated synthetic oils in their bikes as that was what they were specifically designed to use.

15/40 rotella best oil for 139qmb & up china scooters. Seen very hi milage on scoots running rotella .

Retired truck driver here = 33yrs and over 1.4 million miles under my azz. I use nothing but Rotella 15-40 in every thing I own. Cars-Scooters-lawnmowers.

Not putting Rotella down. Could it just have been the stuff in there when you bought it was old sludge? Then any new lubricant would make a world of difference, right?

Rotella is #1 for ALL motorcycles and small engines,,I have been running it for years and NEVER had a problem,,also ran it in all my race rockets,,the store brand motocycle oils are SNAKE OIL,,they just make your wallet light,,the Rotella has a much better additive package,,plus the extra magnesium the small spinners love...Rotella for the win!! I use the T6 Rotella full synthetic and my motor does not sound any louder,,I did notice it runs way cooler and never skips a beat. I change it every 1000 km,,I know its over kill but I enjoy changing it,,its only $6,,and I use the clean stuff that comes out of my scoot for bar and chain lube so its a win win situation....lol I also know a guy who got 30K miles out of a china 150 scoot running castrol synthetic so choose your weapon...

I did read its not the best for vehicles using a catalytic converter,,cause it may clog them up quicker,,thats the only reason i wont run it in my pup truck...but for small engines its liquid gold...

I've never used anything but Rotella 15w-40 in my scoot, boat, OPE, etc. Never had any reason to use anything else.

Warranty is not an issue. The bike is an '82 gold-wing. Car oil synthetics are not a good idea in a motorcycle because of the wet clutch. The guys and gals of the Goldwing docs forum, recommended Rotella and since it's for diesels, it doesn't have the friction modifiers that other synthetics have, and therefore won't hurt the wet clutch.. The biggest thing I noticed is the trans on my bike isn't clunking like it did. The old goldwing transmission had a tendency to clunk and chunk a bit when shifting and the Rotella does quiet it down. I can tell a huge difference. Also, I'm not hearing as much valve train noise.

Hard to say, I did change the oil when we had it town down to do the head which means I couldn't run the engine to get the oil nice and warm before changing it the first time. When I changed the oil to the Rotella, I had gotten the engine nice and warm before changing it. I only had about 600 miles on the Castrol, so it was freash but it was pretty dark when I changed it. One of the reasons it's recommended by the folks in the Gold-wing docs forum, is it does quiet the trans. and make it shift smoother. It just amazed me how big a difference it made.

I had a , 1200 wing that I put 200.000 miles on .I tried just about every oil I could find and in the end used Amsoil , it also nearly stopped the honda clunk .never was in the motor other than cam belts , if you are going to lots of miles see if you can get a Corbin seat .and found Metzler tires the best for my wing .there a great bike and super on long holidays .bought mine used in 86 with 12,000 miles for $3950 sold it 16 years later for $5500 .cant about that .
