Hey guys, i've searched all over the forum and can't seem to find a solution to my problem... So i bought a 08 chinese scooter with the GY6 engine.. and it ran fine, but top speed was 50mph barely, so i thought i would take apart the carb and clean it, I put everything back together and threw it back into the scooter.. but now once it starts, it runs for 20-30 seconds and dies, if i give it full throttle it revs up fine, and stays running for another 20 seconds.. It does not make any unusual noise like popping or anything, just slowly dies. It seems like its running out of gas? I took apart he carb and did not find any dirt in the jets... I didn't mess with the A/F mixture screw so i left it where it is, and idle screw i tried adjusting with no luck..
I also checked all the vacuum and fuel lines and they look good, no gas leaks either.. I am at a loss

Hmmm,, If it was not doing it before you took it apart maybe you put something back wrong especially the float pin. I would pull the fuel line off the inlet on the carb then crank the motor over and see if you have a good strong flow of fuel to the carb,,if so then the issue is downstream in the carb,,if not the issues is between the tank vent, tank, petcock, and filter..I think the petcock went south on you or the float is not moving freeley.Could have sucked some dirt into the carb also,,the fuel tank sending units have these really poor quality floats on them that break apart in the tank and clog stuff up... Since it is a 2008 you might want to check the valves for .004 of an inch also,,but I don't think that's your problem. Welcome aboard the greatest Chinese scooter forum on the planet!! Tom

i think, that since it had been running like that. and you cleaned it, and now it dont run. they had it set up to run before, like that. with it dirty, clogged. now youve cleaned it. try adjusting your mixture screw. get the idle to a high idle rpm with the idle adjustment rpm screw. ride the bike arou9nd, get it warmed up. ride it for 10 minutes or something. then, adjust the mixture screw for the highest idling rpms. if it starts racing use the idle rpm set screw to lower it back down, to a high idle rpm. once its at highest rpms, lower idle down with idle rpm set screw.
before you do this, check how many turns out your mixture screw is, right now, by turning it in and counting how many turns it takes, and remembering it. so you can set it back later. once your done, and have it set to highest idle, then you sort of adjust it, in and out as how it runs while your on it, snap the throttle back and see how it runs. if its cutting out then yoru a little lean, if it smokes your rich. im not sure which way to adjust them carbs, but youll be able to tell. you use the mixture screw to set this up.
count the numnber of turns your at after youve set for highest rpms idle speed, by turning it all the way in, and counting then, if its under like 1 1/4 or over 3 1/2, you need to change the pilot jet. did you check what jets where in it. you might need to change jet if they changed it.

Take a picture of the CARB AREA and the HOSES. QUESTION: Did you just take the carb bowl off and clean the JETS OR DID YOU TAKE something else apart? Did you take the TOP off the carb? Did you unplug the ENRICHER(CHOKE), Did you plug it back in? Alleyoop

How far up the "float bowl drain valve" screw should the "float bowl drain vavle seal" be?

My gy6 150cc engine got to where it would start and run for a couple of seconds, then die. If I held the throttle wide open, it would start and run, but I had to rev it up and down because running it wide open is not a good idea. And, if I held it at half throttle it would die. So that is when I had to rev it up and down. Now, I took the carb completely off, unhooked all the gas and vacuum lines off. I then blew through the nipple at the base of the carb, while holding all openings where the air was exiting the carb, with my fingers and palm of my hand. One at a time, I would systematically leave only one opening uncovered while blowing. I put everything back together and now it runs like normal!
