I ordered my taotao from dallas power sports awesome atv . I couldn't ask for a better place to purchase the scooter from. They had it in stock and i received it in about 5 days from the time i ordered it. It came with no trunk, I emailed them and they sent one out right away. Also my paper work for the plates and title came right away also. A++++ for them in my book!
I received my scooter assembled it, changed the oil (amsoil 10w 40 motorcycle oil, because i had some in the garage), fuel filter, and diff oil(lucas synthetic i think),and spark plug (reg ngk) before i fired it up. it started up right away and idled great. I let it warm idle for about ten minutes and shut down to cool off about 3 times over the next couple days. Then i took it on a few short rides and changed the oil at about 20 km. There was some specs of metal in the oil which is to be expected during break in. I replaced all the vacuum and fuel lines ( except the rubber hose going into the rear gear clutch area) . Then replaced oil again at 60 km (15w40 royal purple). I am now at 107 km and so far so good. The scooter keeps up with traffic well and does everything it is expected to do. Today I put in the iridium plug from nkg . I didnt notice any seat of the pants difference. I did fill up the tank to the top once and it stalled out due to the air inlet into the tank was blocked by fuel. I siphoned out some fuel and it runs great again. Bad tank design I guess but i just wont fill it to the top and problem solved.
I have ordered some upgrades and I am waiting on those to arrive.
NCY cdi box
NCY 10 gram rollers
NCY variater
NCY stainless header bolts and gasket
Gates kevlar belt
and Uni foam air filter
I dont know if i want to remove the air box or not. It sounds like that cross bar will get in the way if i use just a uni filter on the carb.
The 10 gram rollers may be too light but i had to start somewhere. I want better acceleration so I started with that.
I also plan to order soon a p &p pipe and carb jets.
By the way this is my first scooter and scooter build. I have had four wheelers, dirt bikes and crotch rockets in the past but this is my first scooter.
Most of my input so far has come from jerseyboy on this site. ( thankyou jerseyboy by the way for all the informative posts.)
I would rather not have the air box on the scooter because it seems like it will be a pain to remove a bunch of times for when i jet and rejet the carb trying to get it right. I dont plan on riding in the rain so im not concerned about the airbox for that reason. Also if i remember right jerseyboy did not like the sound without the airbox so maybe i will just drill holes in the lid and keep the air box. Any input would be apreciated.
Well that is all for now . I will post a pic soon just in case anyone is interested. I plan to continue this as the build continues hoping it may help someone in the future. The same way jerseyboys posts helped me.
