So i'm trying to finish up this build and when I went to check for free play in the flywheel I notice a little tap when at TDC. It provides barely any resistance and I don't think it would effect running however i'm not the smartest. When its at the point where it knocks I checked and the rocker arms moves freely while rotating past the knock so its not a valve hitting the piston more of a piston to head clearance problem.
What do you think? Safe to start of no?
When I loosen the camshaft holder and turn the knock goes away.

Did you use a second base gasket?

Also, are you using the same head and rocker arms?

No, kit only came with one and the seller said they had no more. And yes

I'm guessing one more gasket would give you the needed clearance. Others have had to add one when installing a bbk.

Partsforscooters has a pretty good inventory. I haven't looked but they may have it.

Take your head off, put a light coat of grease on the top of the piston, put your head back on, rotate the crank, take the head back off, inspect the piston and head to see if the grease has transferred to the head. This should let you know if it's actually the piston hitting that is causing the sound. If you have some white grease it will be easier to visually inspect, just be sure to not get it on the edges of the piston so you don't get too much in the sleeve. Clean up the grease before fully re-installing the head.

Maybe it's just me but I don't think you would want to start it if they are touching. The rod will stretch, valves will grow longer ect once started. Basically no good can come of it, and it isn't something that would fix itself.

Yea, I just tore it back down and are going to wait until I fix the clearance problem. All the builds I've done have spun without any inner contact noise and this one does not, plus before buying ive read about clearance issues.
I just put back on another 50mm I had and no issues.

Just curious is the 52mm a dome top piston?

I have done many 52mm kits always used two base gaskets for clearance and compression issues.
