Started scooter today... first time in over a month. It had been down to 0 or lower, so the battery was drained. MY scooter is parked outside covered with a tarp... have no garage. I could not find my battery charger, due to the move, so I put jumper cables on our pickup and the scooter... it started right up. Let it idle some to charge battery. Cant ride it, due to permit is expired. A cop would let me go with a warning, if it was a 49cc scooter, but mine is a 250cc scooter... I think they would frown on that. It is going to be in the 50s and 60s this weekend in MO. Warmer days are coming.

Do not ride without your tags! In most places, the fine is over $1,000 ($1,200 here in Nevada). Here the judge will usually reduce the fine to court costs (a couple hundred) if you have everything in order before your court date, but that is at the judge's discretion.

Scooter12,
I just did the same... My old 250 has sat under a tarp since before Christmas, and it's been in the teens most nights. Today, it got up to 60 so I dug "Minnie Mouse" out from under the tarp, checked her over and fired her up! I was amazed that the battery was still strong, and she fired in less than one full revolution on the starter!
Do make sure to get your license in order... You don't want to miss any of that great riding weather!
Ride safe,
Leo in Texas

If you mean learners permit then don't ride it. Here if you are caught without the proper license to ride even if you are on your way to take the test they will impound your bike and will not give it back untill you pass the MSF course and then pay the impound and storage fees. Sometimes it is cheaper to buy a new bike.

I didn't think the battery really charged much at idle Gotta either ride it for a while, or find/buy a charger/tender. But, enjoy the warm weather, get it registered first tho and do it right I see soooo many people trying to circumvent the system. No lic, no ins, no formal training...... Ride safe

People here ride 150s all over town without plates but are restricted to roads under 35 and cant go on the main road through town which is labeled as a highway with 40 mph speed limit. Its illegal I don't see why anyone would buy a bigger bike but have to use it like a smaller one. I got mine licensed and fully covered insurance wise if it gets stolen or wrecked I get a new one. Best to stay legal and insured I wouldn't have it any other way.
