So i upgraded my scooter to a 100cc recently and have been riding it to work for about 2 weeks. Today was making a 5 minute ride to the store when i noticed that it wasn't speeding up like it should. It almost felt like a clutch slipping. I made it a few hundred feet or so and it just wouldn't move any more. It became very hard to start and when i could get it to start i could rev it up but it wouldn't move an inch. It sounded like the belt to the clutch was sqweaking a little but nothing else. While i was pushing it home there was a noise that was reverberating off the fender that sounded like a frog and a noise like a piece of metal was sliding up snd down a tube....the scooter has gained about 10 to 15mph since the upgrade and i have been running it at top speed in the mornings to get to work. Anybody have an idea as to what may be wrong? It is a trike btw.

I would defiantly open the cvt cover and check for obvious damage first.

Most likely it could be the belt as they wear out and have been known to break . I always suggest with fresh engine rebuild , more so with a BBK that one installs a new belt . The BBK has a couple more ponies so it tends to wear them out faster than a 49cc . Check your rollers too since the belt was worn they may be as well .

Also, this just came to mind. The engine seeemed to be hard to turn over, as if the engine wanted to start and go but something was stopping it or making it harder to turn. But i could get it going with a little finesse onlf the throttle

The belt may be binding .

Ok, so I'm not entirely sure, but I believe it is the starter/bendix. I took a video of what it is doing. So when I try to start it obviously it sounds like its having trouble starting. What I noticed when I took the CVT cover off was that the bendix is not disengaging from the flywheel. It would seem when I bought the new CVT cover that NONE of the bushings were in it already. Not knowing that the starter has a bushing that it needs as well, I tried to start it with just a socket and extentension on the end of the bendix and the first thing it does is move at an angle when its trying to start. So it has almost double the width of the end of the bendix to just move around where the bushing should be. It sounds like it is struggling to turn the flywheel, however I can turn it myself by hand with no problems. The belt looks alright, as well as the clutch. The only thing that I really notice that is the probably cause is the starter. Here is what it looked like when I took the CVT cover off of after trying to start it.

Well that is def not it. I put the kick start back on and managed to get it to start up twice like that. And it still does the same thing. I have a feeling like its the shaft the flywheel is attatched to. Maybe a bearing being out? I dont know at this point. I'm about ready to throw gas all over it and light it up.

Take a pic of the entire cvt so we can see the whole think without the cover just sitting there. Could be many things the CLUTCH itself is not engaging, the shaft that the clutch is on is broke inside, one of the drive gears teeth inside could be broke and no longer engaging. Since this is a trike the Axle Shafts could worn down and not engaging the worm gears to turn the wheels. Check the rear wheels, jack it up either both at the same time or one at a time and then grab the wheel and see if it is loose on the axle. If they are very loose the Splines on the HUB may be worn down and not grabbing Spline on the Axle anymore. so when you try to move the axle is just turning inside the HUB and you will hear nasty noises. Do you have the KILLSWITCH on the run position? It is turning the motor over but it is not firing not even once. So the first thing is to check for SPARK And make sure the killswitch is on the run position. So take the plug out and ground it to the MOTOR NOT THE FRAME and crank it and see if the spark plug is firing. Alleyoop

also make sure the carb is getting gas, just take the fuel hose off the carb and put it in a small container and crank it. Fuel should stream out as your cranking it. Alleyoop

One other thing have you adjusted your valves, if they are tight they will leak and the motor will loose a lot of compression and will be hard to start and stay running at low rpms. If they are really tight it will not start of the compression has dropped below 100psi. Alleyoop
