This all started on the ride home from the store. It will start, I got it to fire up on the kick start about an hour or so ago. But, a few days ago I aired up the tires because they were low. I started getting a vibration once the scooter got to about 50mph. The whole steering and front end would bounce. When I got home friday I drove it up to the store once on friday night, no problems. Then on saturday I got to the store again, and on the ride back to the house, I noticed going up a large hill that it felt like a clutch slipping, it wasnt much, but i could feel it. I made it up the hill, drove up the second hill, and again it felt like a clutch slipping. The RPMs did not drop while it was doing this. It felt more like the drive train. But once I got to the top it started to squeak a bit and felt like the motor could not push the thing forward. I was able to start the motor, but it wouldnt go past about 2krpm and wouldnt move at all. It WILL start. I can get it to start right now with a major pain in the of a time. The kickstart is back on but very hard to start, the only real easy way to do it is via the starter. Heres another picture and a video.

Take the VARIATOR off and it could be the Variator is not moveing out and pushing the belt up so it will climb up the variator and bring the belt down in the CLUTCH. The way you run it the VARIATOR guides may be stuck and not allowing it to move out. Everything looks good there I would check the VARIATOR , if it is stuck in the open position you can rev it all you want and it will not move. Alleyoop

RICK, Since you cannot start it to see how the Variator is working, Do this, get a marker and MARK the VARIATOR like this BUT all the way down as far as you can mark it then start it up and rev it and then see how high the BELT MOVED up the Variator that will tell us if there is a problem with the Variaotor closing or not. Alleyoop But mark it as far as you can down the variator:

You have a trike ally...what would be some good weights to run? Right now my top speed is around 50 with just the bbk, but it may be a good idea to do the variator next if im having problems with it ya know.

I cant start it at all right now i dont think. I sat for like 20 minutes to kick it over and i couldnt get it going. And right now it seems the starter is having a hard time moving the variator assembly. If its the variator could it stop the starter from turning the motor easily?

Right now my top speed is around 50 with just the bbk, but it may be a good idea to do the variator next if im having problems with it ya know. I have to tell you 50mph on a 50cc bbk is DAMN awesome. Do you realize that most 150 scoots can only do 50mph. Some may do a little over but not much over 50. Now my trike is a 150 bored out to 182cc and I run 12 gram Dr. Pulley Sliders on a 115mm variator. Do you know what gram weights are in there now? Also do you know the rpms do you have a tach on it? If it runs 50mph I would put the same gram weights in it since you mentioned going up a hill it DOES NOT LOOSE RPMS which is what you want. You only want to loose MPH due to the weight it is pulling up the hill. So they way your CVT is setup it is right on. Now if you loose RPMS going up a hill then you would need lighter weights to bring up the rpms. Alleyoop But First lets find out why you are having the problem. Also since it it hard to start FIRST adjust your valves I would bet the EXHAUST valve is tight and your loosing compression Then once it starts up good you can mark the Variator before putting the cover back on then start it rev it up and then take the cvt cover off and see if the belt move or not.

It will lose rpms going uphill, but the slowest i go uphill, any hill is about 40. The hills i go up arent steep they are just long. Florida is generally pretty flat..lol. i may ned lighter ones then. Would the stuck variator cause a vibration at a high mph? The rpms go up to 10k. Redline starts at 8k. Im at 8k or so at 50mph. I try not to take it past redline, but ill run it right at redline. Its been a few weeks since i put the bbk on it. I put the valves at .004 , think they could have come out of adjustment this soon?
Also, just so i undetstand. The variator plate pushes out, and the belt will expand tightening it on the clutch pully?

WOW it runs up to 10K! Yea I have my CVT setup to only let it REV up to around 7500 rpms. You may loose a couple of hundred RPMS going up a hill but what I mean is the rpms do not drop dramatically like you may loose a 1-2k going up a hill. And if you can maintain 40 up a hill on that trike that is DAMN good. Now remember lighter weights will raise your rpms BUT you do not need that if you run at 50mph and still have some left over. You may want to try 1 gram HEAVIER weights.
Right now I think your battery is Depleted so if you have a car you can jump your scoot battery or put it on charge. Just remember if using a car to jump it DO NOT HAVE THE CAR running. Alleyoop

It will lose a couple k going uphill, but keeps it at 40 the whole time.

Ok Rick, here is how a CVT work notice the VARIATOR how it moves out and pulls the BELT down in the CLUTCH pulley getting speed. So if you mark the Variator like I said we will know if there is a problem with the Variator not moving out to squeeze the belt to make it climb up the variator. Alleyoop

Ok, so it could be one of two things, the variator is stuck open and not engaging the belt, or the pully on the clutch is not closing. I like videos, they explain alot more than reading it...lol...im hopelessly visual in learning.

Like they say pictures are worth a thousand words, videos maybe 2 thousand So you now know what I was trying to explain, so mark the variator and we will know. Alley
