So.. now the 'bent' Lance is put together. I bought the Jonway to use as spares bike for the Lance, then realized all the parts I needed for the Lance were Either worn out, broken or missing on the Jonway. So, today I started work to find the mystery reason the Jonway wouldn't start. The owner assured me it was a 'Carb' issue. Having already been fleeced once.. I was wise.. Well, here's what I found after removing those "all important" 4 bolts. If someone else tells me it "GY6 engines are only held in the frame with 4 bolts" I'm gonna scream!!! Looking Great Here ! So Far So Good!! That's not looking so good !! Good Grief Charlie Brown.. !! So, it looks like I'll be teaching myself how to split the crankcases.. Does the forum offer a tool loan service?? Looks like I'm gonna need a gear removal & variator removal tool.. Anyone got a less damaged crank for sale?? I can't begin to think what a rider has to do to cause this much damage !!

Well it may have been a carb issue to start with. Ran lean like crazy and POW.

Seriously?! Was there any piston left? I feel fortunate now that the fixer upper I bought only needed a top end.

still gotta wonder where the piston went.... you can put it back together for under 300 including tools. The tools are not too pricey and they are nice to have around. I need the gear puller for the crank on my 150 and once I have that, I should be pretty much able to break these down without any problems. I have my impact for the variator, flywheel puller and a starter nut socket... so I'm pretty good at this point.
With that level of carnage, I'd replace the oil pump and timing chain as well... Just to be safe, ya don't wanna do it twice!

I'd just buy a new motor. Time and aggravation-wise I think it would be a less expensive option.I would then drop off the blown motor at the guy's front door, along with a"note of thanks".

After some research, I've concluded that it was probably caused by a wrist ( gudgeon) pin failure. This was probably bought on by severe heat caused by failure of the lower engine cover, which was melted off. More than likely, it occurred at maximum revs, the debris had nowhere to go and clattered around until it disintegrated.. I think I'll get a lower engine cover for the rebuilt engine..
