Well, as with most people who buy transportation that join forums, I am not satisfied with stock. I have not long had my scooter, as a matter of fact it hasn't hit 300km on the odometer yet. I have already replaced a few things and added a few things with more to come. Here is a list of my project so far: 2013 TaoTao ATM50-A1 Speedy (1P39QMB) <$700 new Keihin Carb - Free with scooter and installed at time of purchase Larger 9 amp hour battery - free and installed at time of purchase DLH Performance variator kit with clutch springs - $24 1,000 rpm clutch springs 1,000 rpm contra spring - $6.99 Various roller weights - 16x13 $8.99 De-restricted airbox (inner snorkel removed) $0 Special Valve caps on tires $4.99 NGK plug $0 Mobile 1 extended 10w-40 $5.49 x 2 Octane fuel (Shell) with Stabil ethanol treatment (6ml per full tank) 194 (T10) LED parking light in the front 6000K $1.98 Two LED strips under body 6000K $0 1157 Brake light, 27 LED bulb, two contacts on the bottom with staggered pins on the sides, white 6000K $4.15 Xenon headlight bulb, 6000K coming in the mail $5.98 for three Performance blue CDI and orange performance coil coming in the mail $12.98

What site did you get the DLH Performance variator kit from and how long did it take for you to get it?

I like the LED for the front, wanna buy one for mine as well, but have 5500km on mine, and haven't done anything to it (but oil changes, and replaced the rear/brake light with a LED), so I think mine might not last very long anymore. At best I hope to get another 5,5k km out of it, and retire the thing.
I recommend before 4500km to do your valve adjustment. I started noticing some buzz at the valves, at around 5k KM.

I may have another laying around... they were tag lights on my Camaro and my Nissan 200sx. I still have my feeler gauges from my first 2010 TaoTao 50... specifically bought to do the valves. I switched my factory plug today for an NGK... it seems to be running poorly when I stop now and actually bogged down and shut off twice. The factory plug looked fine, color was a nice chocolate color and was gaped at .022 inch... I gaped the NGK at .026. Its is also not C7HSA but is the C6HSA... ooops. I am hoping it will be ok when I get the performance coil here soon in the mail. I think I will pull the NGK and see how it looks tomorrow.

Thanks, I am enjoying it... this one actually goes. The 2010 barely hit 30mph wot on flat ground. Pretty soon I will be ordering an NCY exhaust. I have plans for an all Rockford Fosgate stereo complete with two 4" coaxial speakers and an 8" subwoofer in a fiberglass enclosure under the seat and two amps in the trunk. But that's down the road, after the exhaust and this time a 100cc BBK. We will see how it goes. I have also found some nice aluminum rims.... I have a list of things I want lol. Found some killer mirrors... gonna do LED in the gauge cluster... I want it to pretty much look stock when its on the center stand but make you go WOW when its running.

Gap the plug to 0.015. It'll work better on your tao. I gapped mine at 0.012, but the weather is much hotter here. Below 0.010 it bogs.

I tried the .015in gap... it wasn't happy. It idled fine but when I tried to take off it bogged. I set it at .022in and it seems fine again. However, I did remove the snorkel from the air box and it did not like that. It was the piece with the 4 small holes in it. As soon as I put it back on the scooter was fine so I don't know if the .015in gap was actually the problem. I may put the restriction back in the air box to see if less air helps as well. She may be slightly rich.

When you restrict airflow and it runs better, it means that it's running lean, not rich. Most of the time the stock bikes need to be rejetted, or when using BP Premium fuel, you can somewhat compensate for the loss in power due to a too high air / fuel ratio (running too lean).
Even 1 or 2 sizes up on the main jet will help out.
On my ATM50, my idle jet is running too rich (the exhaust smells to unburned fuel), and the main jet is too lean, as a result my spark plug does look tanned, but more grey instead of brown. When looking under a magnifying glass the grey is actually specks of white and black.

I am putting the inner snorkel back in the airbox... will let you know if it helps with the slight bogging at stop lights. What would the jets be in my Keihin (sizes) and which one(s) do I need to change if I put the NCY exhaust on and do I need to open the airbox up at THAT point?
