I've gotten just over 1600 miles on my stock drive belt with the red (2000) torque spring and am showing slight signs of fraying and a little chunking on the sides. On average, how many miles do you drive on a belt before changing it and what torque spring do you use ?

I changed my stock belt out at about 800 miles. Looked OK but now use it for an emergency spare. I would get that stock belt out of there and put in a gates or bando before it explodes and causes a mess or worse. I think best to get stock belts out before 1000 miles if you can unless the stock belt is a gates or bando. My 2 cents.

That's what you get when you do upgrades. Last time I checked my TaoTao ATM50's belt was around 4000km (~3000 miles), and it was as good as new.

I had 4000+ miles on my Zuma on it's stock belt. 3000 of those miles were with the red torque spring (and bbk, pipe, carb, exc...). Your belt issue might be as simple as having a very low grade stock belt. The idea that a stiffer torque spring can dramatically increase wear, is a myth. Just get a good belt from a known supplier and see how it goes.

I have over 4k miles on the stock Gates belt and it looks like new with no frays or missing teeth . The stiffer clutch and torque springs can shorten the belt life , as well as fast speeds and having a passenger .
My Echarm I changed the belt at 12k miles and it was still good . It is a great idea to replace the belt BEFORE it wears out or worse shreds which can damage the CVT and cause a wreck with the rear wheel locked up . Only use a Gates or Bando brand belt from a trusted dealer like any of the sponsors here and avoid Ebay since there is many crappy fake belts renamed Gates and Bando

Mine was apparently changed to a Gates during its PDI when new....Lasted 8150 miles. Then that was that.... I had just checked it a couple days earlier but nothing noticeable... At least a had an excuse to clean the CVT, buy an impact and start goofing with tuning...

I just changed mine from its stock belt to a naraku belt .....4200klm....and it looks great , no chips , frings, or noticeable wear.
