You need to get the ADVANCING CDI not your COMMON PERFORMANCE ONES, just to make that clear. Ask John(TVNACMAN) he can get you a DC one. Alleyoop

Well you must of taken a hard head pill today MILLSC I thought you were pulling my leg, I would not stir you wrong bud. But you almost had me give up on you. Good Luck with it I have been running with one because I TOO had the problem starting up my bored out 200+ motor. It would always KICKBACK on me and that damages your starter clutch. I have 4 Performance CDIs hanging in my garage I even paid top dollar and tried the NCY performance CDI. The only one that would not cause a KICKBACK was the stock CDI but naturally no performance no advancing. I googled and found the ADVANCING CDIs emailed JOHN to get me one or two and he did I bought two of them. I have one still in the package hanging, the one on there I have about 4Kmiles on it works great. Alleyoop

Millsc, to make sure it is a DC CDI, get a 12v test light or multi meter TURN YOUR KEY ON and TOUCH the BOTTOM WIRE on the 2 plug of the CDI. It it lights up with the test light it is a DC CDI getting 12v from the battery, if a multi meter it will register 12v. Then you are position without question it is a DC CDI fed from the battery. If you take the battery out or disconnect it the spark plug will not fire. Alleyoop

I just wanted to make sure before you order one to get the right one DC or AC. If you already know its a DC cdi not need to test it. Alleyoop

howdy, i don't know if this is a good time to chime in but i can attest to variable timing on starting issues. it saves the day for sure.

I'll test it with my test light to be sure but the headlights do not come on with the key on neither do the back running lights until started, but does have one wire on the two plug and is way bigger
