Couldn't find any info on here, but I did find it on Scootdawg. Some people are splitting up rollerweights? 10grams with 14grams? Even seen some are running like half of the roller weights in the variator, kinda like, 3 16gram rollers? Or 4 or something? Now this caught my eye, Its like they were getting awesome bottom end, and also hitting good top end as well. I didn't know this could be done. I kinda knew that you could run diff. weights every other one, but all that mixing got me confused. I now have 10gram, 12gram, and 14gram weights in my collection........anyways just a thought.

Not sure i see a question here. Its pretty well known you can evenly alternate weights of the same number to average another weight without having to buy a complete set. I have 5-4-5-4-5-4 and that averages 4.5 grs.

I think I understand what you're wondering about; "can you not only MIX weights, but also REMOVE some?"
Yes, you surely can mix weights, so long as they're spaced evenly, as redroush00 stated. I've just spent a month tweaking my own (Xingyue 150) and found 13 gram rollers were TOO heavy, giving me good top-speed, but very poor acceleration. Then, 12 gram rollers were TOO light, giving me great acceleration, but very low top-speed at a too-high rpm.
I then alternately mixed 3 each 12's and 3 each 13's. This gave me my best all-round performance. I've yet to try SLIDERS. At Alleyoop's advice (and he really DOES know these scoots!) I got a set of 13 gram sliders. Sliders do enjoy VERY good favor with riders. They should allow the variator to FULLY open for good low-end and FULLY close for good top-end. When I get time to install and test them, I'll make a post. Right now, "Lil' Bubba" is running SO well that I hesitate to change anything... LOL! "If it ain't BROKE, don't FIX it..." You know the drill... But I do believe sliders will be even more of an improvement.
I've never heard of using FEWER than the full number of 6 rollers. That would leave some of the roller-channels empty, and unsupported. It would undoubtedly work, with evenly spaced empties, BUT... It's a MAJOR violation of the original variator design. I think this would double the stress on the remaining rollers, wear them out fast, and eventually cause distortion and failure of the variator. I'd stick with an even mix of weights if all one weight wont' work (as in my case).
That's only my opinion and I'm NOT expert on CVT trannies. Any more savvy techs please chime in!

I put 13 grams with a koso variator which would be like running 11.5 or 12 gram on a stock variator since the koso weighs less, i get great acceleration haven't ran wot much its not broke in and i ride in town mainly. I may bump up to 14 grams or mix 13 and 14 grams

[replyingto=millsc]millsc[/replyingto]Wonder if you could mix 10gram and say, 17gram?

Ive seen claims of running variations of lets say 16s and 10s , and that the pickup is somehow better then running 13s . Claiming he lighter 10s would help with takoff. I cant see how thos could be because its not like the 10s are going to stay low in the variator as it spins. The tens will b right with the 16s as the variator opens . I personaly do not recomend mixing anything over a gram different.

[replyingto=oldchopperguy]oldchopperguy[/replyingto]Well that being said, I'm gonna try mixing 14gram with 10gram and see how that works. I had the Koso 1500 torque spring in, but I took it out and put my other 2000 torque spring in, gonna mix them weights and see what happens, I also have the NCY 2000 clutch springs in the clutch, (the red ones), I always forgot that I had them in there

14gram with 10gram ,,,,,,,,Why not just get 12"s?? Not understanding the dilemma here. The idea is to fine tune. Mixing these weights just makes no sense at all.

mixing weights is ok. But stay close to the same size. like 3 -5 and 3- 7 going to big of sizes will make the belt ride a little off and wear down faster on one side. you wana try to let the belt ride even.

Usually u mix weights to get a .5 gram like 12.5 or 11.5 an so on. I understand if someone dosent have the weight they want and cant wait to order new ones. But i woul still order th 12's when u can and switch them out when u get them. Ive also heard others on here say its not recomended to mix weights that many grams apart.

I already have Koso 12gram weights in it now, I had 10grams in it before, but I didn't like the high rpm and was missing my top speeds. The 12's are good for now, I already have some Hoca 14grams on the way. My bottom end is good, with the 2k spring and the 2k clutch springs seems to work fine for me, plus I guess all the mods I have. Wonder what the biggest/best size BBK I can go with without having to bore? Also best head? 2 valve or 4 valve? My brother is our Mechanic, I buy the stock/inventory and he does the Wrenching! LOL! We're a team, what can I say.....
