OK, so a while back (last summer specifically), I bought myself a scooter for getting around my campus. It was fantastic, it only cost me $850 and it was pretty nice. I was pretty reckless and laid it down a couple of times, plus it got bumped by a car. So now its in pretty rough shape. The mirror is gone, both of the front indicators have fallen out, and the right side is a little scratched. It was a cheap scooter, I'm not worried about the scratches and i can figure something out for the indicators, in fact I never really liked them all that much and would much rather have LED. The mirror had no electrical so that's an easy fix as well, when i decide to spend money to buy a new one. The biggest problem is that when I hit the gas, the engine cuts out. it stops completely. sometimes if I'm gentle on it i can get it to go without cutting out, but most of the time it just dies. the biggest problem with this is that it doesn't do it all the time. sometimes it runs fine and other times it doesn't. I was wondering if anybody could tell me what the problem is and how to fix it.

You need to tune the carb , air fuel screw. This should do the trick. Start the scoot let it warm up raise the ilde just little about 2000 rpm then turn the air fuel screw until you get th highest rpm and then turn the idle screw back down to idle at around 17 to 1800 rpm

[replyingto=scootypuffjr]scootypuffjr[/replyingto]Mine did that when I first got it. In my case it was usually a fuel problem. My fuel filter was under the seat bucket, and the fuel line was getting pinched from the seat bucket, so I relocated the fuel filter. Also, I changed out the fuel petcock to a better quality Mikuni fuel petcock. Never had a fuel problem again.

Either your fuel filter is restricted or you have a vacuum leak in the hose to your fuel shut off valve.

I have a pumper carb ,it squirts extra fuel at takoff and if im not tuned right it has a dead spot and will shut down within the first inch i twist th throttle. This is because of to muxch fuel , or a rich mix. Same thing with th enriche running. Sounds like a carb issue.

Alright, I'm hearing a lot of things, all of them fuel related. Whatever the problem is, it sound like a quick fix. When I get the time I'll get my hands a little greasy. Thanks for all the help guys.

If it was running good before and now it is not and you have not made any mods , I would first drain out the carb bowl and remove it . Then you can unscrew the idle jet and main jet to clean it with any carb cleaner spray along with spraying the venturi too . The sparkplug cap can get loose or even pop off . Clean the airfilter . May want ta new NGK sparkplug . A loose , unhooked or cracked vacuum hose can make one run bad . I use SeaFoam to keep the fuel system clean . Fuel pecocks can go bad .
When the valves get out of adjustment it can run bad or not at all in extreme cases

[replyingto=makarov]makarov[/replyingto]i have minimal experience with cars, let alone small engines. the best do can do with a car is electrical, panels, and oil changes. although i did look for pinches and there didn't seem to be any.
