Hey all,
I am thinking about getting a 250cc class scooter next Spring as I would like to be able to ride it to work etc. and the one I have now is too small. I contacted John at Valley Scooters as I was asking him about the Linhai 260 which looked like a nice scooter. He said he doesn't sell them anymore and that they have been out of business for a couple of year.
What are my options for a Chinese 250 class scooter? I want something that's been made recently (not a 2008 model that has been stored for 5 years). It looks like Roketa sells some but I don't know how old they are. Please enlighten me on the 250cc market. It looks like they either come in the horizontal or vertical engine variety. Thanks much for your knowledge.

[replyingto=spandi]spandi[/replyingto]Thanks Spandi. Is that one a Yamaha (horizontal clone) or the Honda (vertical clone)?

Although in this blowup it appears (to my eye) more like the 257 horizontal. (but with the Chinese, who knows?)

Can't say too much about the 250 cc chinese scooters, but the Linhai, was a nice looking bike. I bought a used 2005 Honda Reflex Sport this winter, and I've put 1,600 trouble free miles on it since I bought it. It only had 1,400 miles on it when I bought it, and other than a few scratches and such from being dropped, it runs and rides like a new bike. By the time I had this may miles on my Tao Tao 150cc chinese bike it had been in the shop a couple of times and I was well acquainted with how to remove the plastic.
You may pay a little more, but IMHO if you need reliability, buy a Honda.

I'd NOT advise you to get a BMS 260. I've had one, and sold it within 2k miles.
The engine and transmission is solid. The shocks do their job, the handlebar ends are solid steel ends. The gas mileage is ~80MPG, which is great for a 250cc, and ok for a fuel injected bike. That's all good, but the problems outweigh the benefits.
The belt is not good. after 2k miles it needs to be changed, and if you're an aggressive rider, even a Bando belt gets a beating and needs to be replaced. I had a bad front (brake) cylinder. Rust prevented it to brake normally. It's idle was so bad, probably the engine wasn't calibrated very well, but the whole front was vibrating, and didn't took long for the plastics to start squeaking, and rattling. The BMS 260 new costs just a tad less than a second hand Burgman 400; but the burgman is so much better quality.

[replyingto=tarkus]tarkus[/replyingto]John said he only sells 50cc and 150cc now. He does not sell any 250cc class scooters anymore.
