Has anyone successfully used neodymium magnets on the bottom of their scooter to trip the stoplight sensors? I've heard it works and the science suggests the same (stoplight sensors sense the magnetic fluctuation of steel going over them to trip the light). Just looking for a confirmed users story- my bike rarely if ever trips these things and I hate running lights at night =)

i cant confirm your story but what i do is if the line of the trip are visible i stop the scooter directly over the trip wire.

yeah I tried stopping directly over wire- no dice. Also in my town at night on the smaller streets I could wait 4 hours and not see a car.

I use them to TRAP metallic particulate matter in my motor lubrication system.

Also in my town at night on the smaller streets I could wait 4 hours and not see a car. some are less sensitive. if it didn't work on one side try pulling up on the opposite side or use a different lane. if it is a Quadruple Loop sensor then you should position your scoot in the center. the magnets aren't going to help much if any. you'd be better off pushing your center stand to the ground directly over the sensor. eventually you should find the sweet spot. i had the same problem a couple months ago when i bought my scoot. only 1 light i am having trouble with now on my way home from work. i just can't find the sweet spot in the left turn lane at this one intersection so if a car isn't already there, i just turn at the next light. i found this site awhile ago. it was very helpful for me: modernvespa.com/forum/wiki-trafficsignals

[replyingto=ramblinman]ramblinman[/replyingto]Well- thanks for the link. I already ordered the magnets (they were $8 shipped for 2 fairly strong ones) so I'll try them and see. Reading the link you supplied, though, I found that it is LEGAL in North Carolina to run a redlight if it's not triggered. I'll do a little more research to make sure but I thought that I could get pulled for it. Thanks for the info! :edit: If the magents dont work I'll stick them to the oilpan to trap any particulate metal. They should work REALLY well for that =)

I bought a Green Light Trigger from CycleGear it did not work at all in SC . In SC if you wait two minutes and it is clear then you can legally run through a red light

I'll do a little more research to make sure but I thought that I could get pulled for it. i would research it also but just know that not every officer is going to know every law. so if you do get pulled over, you may want to have documentation of that law. however if the cop seems a little rough around the edges just be quiet and take the ticket to court. that is my advice with dealing with police.

The WI law says something like count to 45, or 45 seconds... I can count to 45 pretty fast. How fast is a cop counting? I do not have a clock, never mind with a second hand on my scooter, and IF I were wearing a watch, it wont be easy to view under my gear. I have two likes on my ride home that I cannot trip. Both roads have been resurfaced, but I know the loops are in there. If I get a car behind me I do scoot up. Talk about mixed feelings: If he does move up *cheers* I get a green arrow, but do I have someone behind me who will ride my butt? Or if he doesn't move up, why the heck cant he see I was making the space so he also gets the green?
One other left I have has no green arrow, but if it is foggy, the light never seems to change no matter two wheels or four, however if I pull up with no oncoming traffic, I flash my high beam just once, and the light seems to change quickly. Not a bad light.
So far I have been skittish to run a red (forward or left) even if I felt I was in the right and there was plenty of clear road, so instead I take a right and make a U-banger at the next opportunity and get back to my original path.

I only know in SC one on a two wheeler can run a red light after a 2 minute wait and if it is clear to do so . My Echarm has a digital clock above the gauges . Mark Sanford passed that law just before leaving office . I have gotten a lil noid wondering if a newbie cop would see me and not be aware of the law . I guess I will look it up and print it out to have under the seat .
The magnets did not work one but for me . In SC they have weight sensors at the traffic lights and a scoot is not heavy enough to register . I would rather have them use a photodiode or motion detector as I hate it when its green for nobody and red for everybody grrrr . I have hit the crosswalk button downtown to make the light turn green

Geeze People. Just wait. Life does not need to go so fast that it accidentially gets ended when a idiot driver coming the other way thinks the same thing.
Seriously just wait. If you want to build a system to trigger it, you'll want to pass electricity through your NEO magnet. Don't run the red lights no matter what the technical part of the law says. I'm sure the cop will find 30 other violations you have. It's nearly impossible for an upstanding citizen to not be breaking the law at all times.
I get that it can be frustrating and I used to get upset about the lights. Then one day I was explaining it to a friend and he said "Why can't you wait the extra 30seconds?" And I realized how OCD I had become about it. When you have to wait at the light turn it into a game, you are trying to get as zen as possible and clear your head. It's your meditation break DX DX
