CVT Noise

Recently it seems I've developed a bit of drivetrain noise. It's almost a rattle (?) sound under acceleration. Upon leveling out at a speed, the rattle pretty much goes away, so it's mostly under load. I put the scoot up on it's center stand and rolled on the gas some, while moving my hand around the bike, it felt like most of the vibration was coming from the rear of the CVT case. The bike has 4,200 miles on it. I've not had the CVT case off, but I have changed the gear oil. Any input on what I might possibly be looking at?

Variator roller weights are likely starting to wear or developing flat spots.

Ahh... Is it usually a good idea to get a performance variator at the same time?

Yes,because the roller weight guide channels in the variator are alumimum, and can also wear ,increasing tolerances, making more noise. Also bonus is increased performance with a new variator. Make sure to measure your current variator roller weights before geting new ones. Lighter weights = more engine revs. Heavier weights = less engine revs.

Also a new belt is a good idea,at 4200 miles,it may be worn as well. It might be stretched, missing a chunk and flapping around making noise too.

i had something similiar happen to me not to long ago. what happened was one of the guides on my variator face plate came off. i only noticed the vibrations at low rpms or while in a turn. something easy to check before you replace it if you want.

Thanks for the comments! Any recommendations on brands for the variator and weights? Belt? Anything else I should change while I have the cover off?

its probably ok , just cheaper since its comin fron china . only prob is that it may take awhile to get to you. it is better to get one from a known scoot store like sct elements the shipping is great.
