I talked to a couple of people and they told me this was a very common problem on the new 150 V.I.Ps.
I know I can get a new muffler but it's bound to just fall off again. One person told me his fell off 3 times.
So i was told that if I bout a 200$ performance exhaust it would fix the problem permanently.
I was still a bit skeptical and didn't know if this was the best solution or not.
I was thinking about doing something i saw someone do awhile back back but i'm not sure what it's called.
he had cut off his muffler and screwed on this little tiny muffler that screws on. It was small enough I believe it didn't need qany supports, the same supports that broke on mine.
Anyway. If anyone has any solution please let me know. Thank you so much!!.

[replyingto=alleyoop]alleyoop[/replyingto]Lowes has a nice one for $6,,it should screw in nicely,,then get a friend to put a few weld tacks on it so it wont blow off....thats a good idea!
Make sure you keep after the two nuts holding the header pipe on,,and the mounting bolts,,the muffler should not fall off if you do this.
Mine vibrated loose for the first few hundred miles,,then once the gasket got nice and crushed from snuggin it up,,it wont come loose anymore.

The solution is to fix what is causing the vibration. Wrong size belt, grooved variator sheeves, wobbling clutch, mismatched set of rollers, gearbox input shaft bearings, etc. Most vibration that destroys mufflers is caused by problems in the CVT or final drive.

howdy, thanks for that response alleyoop, i was thinking the same thing. i don't understand why, other than looks, more prople don't do that. it sure cuts a lot of weight, sounds ok.
i would think a little thought put in could make it look good also.
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken

Just remember that most of the $6 mufflers are for 4 hp engines, are pushing the limit at the 8 hp level and are put on engines that turn max at 3,600 rpm while a GY6 runs at much higher rpm. A better match for a 150 would be one designed for 10 hp minimum however those start at around $16 to $18. www.amazon.com/Briggs-Stratton-392989-Muffler-Cylinder/dp/B0038U3K4M/ref=pd_sbs_lg_53Still this does not address the root cause of most muffler failures which is excess vibration due to engine/CVT problems.
