oldchopperguy Yes! Yeah! That means I get to meet and spend some time with you and "Minnie Mouse". I haven't been on a "Ride" in two years, and, that was a Mid-Night Run through Dallas. I really didn't do much of anything important to the bike after work today, but, the Title came in from the DMV. Now it's officially MINE. Loren

Yes indeed!
Look forward to it. I'm not all that inspirational to be around: not exactly Elvis or Evel... Just an old geezer who loves things on two wheels! Probably old enough to be your Grand Dad... LOL! One thing I can do is relate some yarns about the old days. You might get a kick out of some of my adventures (and misadventures)... But I'd like very much to meet you. You'll be the only site member to see all the rust and road-rash on old Minnie that doesn't show up in pix... She's been around the block and then some, but she's still cookin'!
I spend much of my time taking care of the Missus since she had a heart-attack in July, but it's good to get out and get some wind my face now and then for sure!
Somehow I never seem to get around to doing the things to the scooter I plan to. Still have a great set of LED lights to install, and of course that obnoxious illuminated swan ornament... and I STILL have not really found a good answer to the rear whitewall... NO paint so far has been satisfactory. It all yellows and peels after a while. Right now, the tire looks mighty sorry! Can't do anything about it until weather stays warm... I snuck the mouse out to pick up meds for the Wife and noticed in the sun, the old gal REALLY needs some TLC to shine her up!
Must be those feral cats that live on her floor under the tarps...
In the mean time, RIDE SAFE!

With the warmer weather today I was able change out the stock plug with an Iridium IX. Was surprised that the RMP's went up and needed to adjust the idle down some. It does "seem to have" more Get-Up & Go now.

My baby got her first wash and wax of the year today. Perfect day, 70 degrees very gentle breeze, wispy clouds, she was prancing on the center stand as I buffed a light coat of spray wax on her fresh clean body. Buffed a bit too hard on her rear side panel, and she tossed her handlebars like a philly tossing her mane. By the time I jumped on her for a quick trip to the store, she was twisting the throttle all by herself, and I found my three block trip turn into a refreshing 45 minute ride!

Does taking a 160 mile round trip in the cage count? It was to buy ethanol free fuel.

Today I finally figured out how to mount a steel antique tractor seat pan to my Majesty, and in a way that will let me give the whole seat area a finished look when I am done. This puts me way ahead on comfort compared to the stock seat, and there is more comfort to be had when spring comes and I can ride it and make minor leveling front to rear slope adjustments. Next step is to figure out how much of the front/side area of the seat pan I need to cut out so I can reach the ground comfortably without destroying the comfort.

Dang! THAT is COOL!!! Have a BIG bone on the Old Chopper Guy!
Incredibly, it even LOOKS right! I'm betting your seat trick will show up on all sorts of Ruckus-style and "nekkid-skelly scoots"! Painted to match (or contrast) with the bike's paint, it would be a knockout!
While a STEEL seat doesn't SOUND so comfortable, I have spent some time on tractors, and they are quite comfy on the tush...
Absolutely GREAT idea!
Thanks for posting!

Thanks for the bone. While Dad was farming, Dad, my brother, and I all spend many, many hours at a stretch on seats just like this. That is my source of my padding means nothing, shape means everything seat building philosophy. While much better than stock scooter seats, a modest cushion makes it even better. I can't believe how 'right' it looks on my scooter either, which makes me hesitant to trim the pan. I am still considering color and paint issues. I am leaning towards a black Rustoleum hammered finish, but any paint I have tried leaves a much too slick surface. The cushion doesn't stay put, and if not using a cushion the rider doesn't stay put either. Maybe paint it anyway and give it a light sanding to give the surface some tooth. Hmmm, any thoughts about using black flat or even bare primer instead? Porch floor paint? I plan to wrap the seat sub pan with little or no padding and then mount the seat on top of that instead of faring the seat into the pan. Another place for color choice. Leo, if I remember right you are/were a graphics designer. Any suggestions about color choice to go with the charcoal scooter? My thought is a dark, saturated color vinyl fabric cover (something like hunter green or maroon) for the sub seat pan and a metallic paint for the seat itself.

Nulldevice,
Even with the buddy-seat in sort of tan, it would look good as you describe, with a dark color that blends into the scooter color. I'm not sure just how well ANY ordinary paint will hold up. Tractor seats are probably done in baked-enamel or today, powder-coat which holds up well.
One product that will hold up is "Gun Kote". I've used it on guns and motorcycle parts and it's nearly indestructible. You do have to bake it though.
A little padding covered with cloth or vinyl might be ideal. That metal gets HOT on a summer day... LOL!
For the very best look, I'd use the vinyl off the original seat, but that would ruin the seat for future use. It would look really good though. With any cloth or vinyl, you could use upholstery-grade adhesive to hold the padding to the metal, and the covering to the padding, and drill small holes in the perimeter of the metal seat, and place flathead screws down through the holes, and stretch the vinyl tightly over them and use fender-washers and nuts to secure the vinyl or cloth to the bottom of the seat.
Using a heat-gun and careful stretching, you might get the seat looking near "factory". If it's in the budget, you could even have an upholstery-shop do it. I'm thinking even the seams in the original seat cover would look appropriate!
If you opt for painting it, flat paint will soon "polish" with use, looking a tad "shabby"... LOL! The hammer-finish might be good, as it wears nicely. A non-slip paint like for use on pool-decks would work great, but would put a lot of wear on your pants! LOL!
The more I look at your pix, the more I'd lean toward sacrificing the original seat material. Done right, it would look much like a pricey big-bike solo-seat.... one of my all-time favorite seats!
Lots of potential ways to go, but paint would be the least-durable, and, the hardest and hottest to sit on. I think I'd use a thin layer of padding and cloth or vinyl, preferably the original covering for appearance and durability.
Just my 2-cents...
Great seat, any way you finish it!
Ride safe!
Leo
