Thanks for the ideas and advice Leo. The thin padding or no padding and vinyl cover sounds best. The iconic drain/vent holes in the pan would show through that way. Even tearing apart the stock seat for covering material has merit. That will be my first avenue of investigation. If I can afford an upholstery-shop to do it I will. I don't have confidence in my ability to do this well myself.
With that in mind, the unfinished part under the seat would look good with a dark forest or hunter green or possibly a maroon.
Again, thanks for the ideas.

You're MOST welcome!
Sounds like a good plan! If you CAN afford an upholstery shop, it's a good move. I once made a seat for a Suzuki 250 "X-6 Hustler"... A "barn-find" in the 1980's. Had no seat at all... I made one from steam-bent-plywood and padded/covered it with Naugahyde and it came out great, BUT it was a LOT of work... A LOT!
Thinking back, I also had to lace up new rims for it (the bike had been run over by a tractor...). That was MORE work than the seat... LOLOLOL! But DANG! Would that little 2-stroke cook... Like 0-60 in 4 seconds, and a top-end of over 125... Now THAT was a 250!
Please do keep us posted with pix! I believe your creative solo-seat will be a real inspiration, ESPECIALLY for the chopped, bobbed, Ruckus/Skelly boys. I can see it hinged at the front, with hairpin springs at the rear... on a scooter, OR a Hog... SWEEEET!
Ride comfy, ride SAFE!

UPDATE: I just checked the Internet for pix of tractor seats on motorcycles and there are several, usually painted... BUT... There are available tractor SLIP-ON SEAT-COVERS!
These would be a super-easy fix! Worth checking out!

I had opportunity to ride a while today in 60+ degree weather, and the wind didn't get vicious until early afternoon. After the ride I finally decided since I will ride with a large seat cushion covering most of the pan I am going to go with the black hammered metal paint. The cushion has a great non-slip covering on the bottom. There is a trim panel with a mat, dark gray surface that covers the bottom edge of the base pan. I will remove it take it with me to Jo Ann's and try to find as close a match as I can with an outdoor/marine vinyl to cover the raw base normally covered by the stock seat along with some light, thin foam to cover and/or fill minor gaps, protrusions and holes. I am finding the final 10% of the build to make it look good takes 50% of the money and % of the time. I think the stock passenger seat cover will be sufficient for a spot of color. That's easy enough to change if it isn't. During final assembly I will take a series of pictures and post them in the Custom Build Scooters board.

Yes, 1,800 mi. 1900.00 and 300lbs compared to the 620lbs of the Burgman 650 which was a great highway cruiser but at 68 yrs old and bad knees I'm happy to see it go.

"Put a down payment on an sh150". I'm several shades of green with envy. The big wheeled sh150 should smooth out the rough roads.

I plugged Peej back into the Battery Tender Jr. Flashed FAST green. When I came back an hour or so later, was steady green. ?? Unplugged, cranked him a few times 'til he started, then let him idle. And revved him some 'til it was no longer jerky and uneven feeling.
Like I told my best friend, I had ZERO temptation to drive around the neighborhood. 1) cracked toe bone 2) the scooter shop mech warned me that since we have no clue what's wrong with the battery he would feel better if I didn't drive to the store (15-some miles away) but had them pick up Peej when it's tune-up time. 320+ lbs of dead scooter is hard enough to push even without the cracked bone!
Edit to add--I did feel unhappy that between my foot and the not-yet-spring weather, I can't be driving Peej for at least another month.

I filled 'er up with gas, rode back and forth to work, and added a little bit of oil... This WAS yesterday, however...

I patted Peej's nose and unplugged the BTjr which has resumed it's weird random flash-patterns.
And sighed 'cause the foot dr told me when I saw him today that he doesn't want me driving the scooter for at least 6 weeks. Then, when I can wear my scoot-boots without pain, then I may resume scooting. Sigh. Six weeks is a horrid long time! And while he might be being too conservative, at least he's concerned for me--first question was "Do you wear boots?" ("Yes sir, good sturdy lace-ups, and one with a steel-toe"--he approved) Next was "Do you wear a helmet?" ("Oh yes sir, always, a full-face. I wear boots, pants, jacket, gloves, and helmet every single time I scoot!"--he thoroughly approved) That's when he told me to try the boots in six, and if there's pain wait a week.

Kat, have a BONE for PATIENCE!
You should still be riding again by late April. It could be worse!
As for "what I've done with the scoot"... It's been in the 60's to 80's now for nearly two weeks... NOT common weather here, and, IRRESISTIBLE! Last year, it RAINED from Christmas to July!
So today I took a quick romp down the freeway after filling the trunk with groceries from Wally World. It takes a few miles to get accustomed again to 70 mph with a roaring 18-wheeler Diesel's wheels and lug-nuts a foot away from you, and a soccer-mom in a Caddy Escalade a foot off your back fender honking to get out of her way... Ain't life in the fast-lane grand? LOL!
Ride again soon, and ride safe!
