I think replacing the clutch springs can also help. My TaoTao has the "red" (2k RPM) contra and small springs. Excellent acceleration and hillclimbing performance, and it seems to unlock more rpms at the top end. No... this is a huge misconception being spread around, largely by someone that doesn't seem to know what they are talking about half the time and is just regurgitating information most of the time. Clutch springs do absolutely nothing but increase the rpm at which the clutch engages. Take off is a little quicker, but all else is the same. The torque/contra spring helps hill climbing and low end buy keeping more pressure on the rear pulley to hold the belt up higher. It has nothing to do with the clutch.

[replyingto=ltdhpp]ltdhpp[/replyingto]Thats what i thought also,,I like where my stock clutch engages,,right around 2800,,I NEVER hammer the clutch from a dead stop,,i wait for it to engage,,then I hammer the throttle,,want it to last a long time!
I may play around with the contra spring like you mentioned,,,thanks!!

the clutch springs are great for more power on accel, my cutch engages at about 3500 rpms this along with my 2000 main spring makes a wprld of difference. the stronger main spring allows you to stay in ta quicker gear ratio longer through out accel . if used and tuned correctly they are great . the main spring closes quicker on decel which allows for a much better g ratio for hill climbing.

I hit 9700 rpm on Friday morning, 56mph. Are you running stock valve springs, or fancy NCY ones?

[replyingto=jeepsteve92xj]jeepsteve92xj[/replyingto]geh3333- I literally was just looking at this same tachometer. Hows it hook up? 12v power and a signal wire to the spark plug wire? How does the signal wire read the plug wire? Sit up next to it or do you have to splice it in or what?

At WOT and top speed (50 mph GPS-verified) my factory tach shows 8k RPM. According to the tach, 8k is the redline.
