Howdy! I'm currently running an oem battery in my 2011 Lintex I picked up this past April. I've adjusted my valves, etc. and am currently having starting issues. My oem battery shows 12v on the meter. Would a better battery give me better cranking (starting) performance (results)?

It will if the battery is the problem. Check the voltage on it while cranking.

Ive been using a 330 amp battery, I believe it's for a riding lawn mower, it's worked great, don't fit in the scoots battery compartment, so I rerouted my battery cables and it's locked up under my seat...

The voltage on my dash gauge drops tremendously when I press the starter.

Mine does too, but it starts up great - best to check it with a meter right at the battery posts. Good chance the battery is weak, especially if it is more than 2 years old. You could try removing and cleaning the connections for the fat wires at the battery, the solenoid, and wherever your case ground is (the fat one). Always possible the starter is going bad too, draining more juice than usual.

This scoot is new, despite being a 2011 model. I set the battery up in April when I received it. I'll check it with a voltmeter and see. The battery is on the charger in the meantime.

Just out of curiosity, do you have the type of battery that you fill yourself or one that you can't replace the fluid?

Stock scoot batteries are really only good for one year, anything after that your living on borrowed time.

I filled it myself per instructions... I checked the charger a few minutes ago and it was reading 50%. I'll wait a while and check again.

Yup, batteries are a specialty science all by themselves. Even weak batteries will read 12 volts until you put a load on them and then they wimp out. Cold Cranking Amps is what count when you're trying to start a motor. There should be an auto parts store near you with a load tester that would be happy to test it for you for free. (Assuming you can get it there.)
You also need to make sure that all of your connections between the battery and the starter are clean and tight. The big red wire to the starter and also the big black wire that has to connect to a frame ground. Also there should be a medium black wire from the frame ground over to the motor ground point. All the power in the world is of no use if it can't get from "A" to "B".
Does the starter whir nicely when you hit the button or is it struggling?

The starter seems to catch, then turns over nicely, but hesitates to start. I'll double check my connections. The kick starter is stiff and stubborn.

[replyingto=devo344a]devo344a[/replyingto]I disagree. I find that BatteryStuff.com has the excellent (& inexpensive) Scorpion batteries. These are sealed AGM batteries for short coin! If you keep them on a float charge all of the time, they can last 5+ years! Good Luck. www.batterystuff.com/all-products-by-brand/scorpion/
