I'm so torn. I really want to do the tail and other roads in North GA but I'm afraid I'll wipe out.

(well, just locally) this road would be insane. when i was about 10 years old i traveled through the smoky mountains with my grandparents. i recall going through a very twisty 2 lane road. i believe we were on these back roads. it was a bit scary to be honest, lol.

I've ridden the Dragon dozens of times on my Guzzi. i won't ride it on a weekend when it's crowded. Best ride I ever had was when it was raining...no one else on it!! The road's not that bad, it's the idiot bikers who pass on blind corners, the cars and trucks who run the turns wide, and most of all, the 18 wheelers who think this is a good short cut, that cause problems! Everyone makes such a big deal about this road, but I think there are so many better roads, that are longer, have plenty of twists, better scenery, and most important: less traffic. When I'm in the area, like I was last week, I ride the Cherohala Skyway, 50+ miles, 5500 foot elevation, and plenty of great views. Route 28, south from the Dragon. There are many others, too many to list. Let everyone stay on the Dragon, so I can ride the other roads and have them to myself. My wife and I on the Dragon on our 1 year anniversary last month:

My wife and I were in North GA this past weekend, and we had a great ride from the top of Black Rock Mountain State Park (Mountain City, GA, just next to Dillard) to Highlands, NC on Rt 106. Fun twists and turns down and back up the mountains, especially for 2 scoots (mine a Linhai 300 and hers a Linhai 150). About a 45 minutes trek each way with beautiful overlooks, enough S-turns to have fun, and no crazy people trying to run you off the road. We may go back in a couple weeks to do it again!

When any place becomes a "world Destination", and gets "publicity", it becomes a magnet for all sorts of characters.I stay away from places like that. Give me a nice, quiet coastal road, and I'm in heaven

It is a fun ride on a scooter. A 250 is all you really need to enjoy it. Speed limit is mostly 35mph.
The Dragon is not as much fun as say El Camino Del Muerte:

I've been up and down The Dragon in a few sports cars, motorcycles and naturally scooters, but I never had more fun on that road than when I drove it in our company box van. Awesome. Matt Attachments:
