Question: does anyone here use a cargo van (mini or full-size) to carry their scoot? I will need to replace my Jeep eventually (204,000 miles and unfortunately, starting to rust) and am considering getting a cargo van if this is practical. (And honestly....I like vans.) I did some checking and used cargo vans seem to be pretty much given away! I found, among other things, a 2000 Ram 2500 cargo van (318 engine, 4.10 gears, A/C, tilt/cruise, cassette player, solid body, and a hitch) with 20,000 miles for $1100!

No experience, but I would think if the cargo area is long enough, no reason why not. Should be like hauling in the bed of a pickup, only enclosed. I'd just make sure to add the rail thingy that holds the tires in place, and something on either side to tie down the handles. And one of those bike ramps.

I have 2001 5.2 2500 with 40,000 miles it is a pig on gas about 9mpg . Aside from a water pump and alternater its never been worked on. Factory plugs wires cap rotor. They run real strong and are legendary in reliabity. The 318 was the deal maker at the time. I got mine brand new from the dealer . I wanted the Ford 250 there were two problems the engine was still some what new 4.6 in the 250 and the 150 had the 4.2 . The engines were new I wanted to know it would last.
1100 bucks if the body is clean and not a salvage title grab it because I would.

I had my second scooter shipped from FL, and the carrier uses a full size ford cargo van, and trailer. He had a couple cycles and my scooter inside the van. My scooter was his last drop off so I didn't see how crowded it may have been. I have a full size high-top van, and I have a pair of Harborfreight ramps - caught on sale for $40 vs $80 or $ original price. I have not put a scooter in yet, I need to make up anchor points for straps. Tire rails would be nice. If it is a cargo van with a cabin to cargo divider, then you have a good place to put the front tire up against. Without a divider, no front wheel stop though nothing too hard to fabricate.

I fit one in the back or a Chevy Astro van with the mirrors off.

Unfortunately, I do not think my maxi-scoot will fit in an Astro, with its high windshield and big top case. I'm thinking Ram 2500, E-150, or Savana 1500. Tvnac: your van needs something, possibly an O2 sensor. I managed more than 9MPG even when I drove 15-pax Ram 3500's with 5.9's, 3. gears, and spent all day putting around Boston and Quincy! Even the hi-top B350 with the 360, 4.11's, a 2' raised roof, and 300,000 miles managed better than 9MPG.

I know a guy in the Los Angeles area that has a mobile scooter repair service. He won't pick up anything over a 150 in his full sized ford van because of size problems. See if yous fits in there before you buy it.

I will test-fit before buying! (Worst case, I can pull the windshield in 5 minutes.) I already checked, and by published dimensions, it will NOT fit in a GM van!

Well...its looking like I either get an Econoline (2" to spare) or get REALLY good at pulling the windshield!

ive found my scoot fits nicely in the back of a dodge minivan that gets about 20mpg. ive bought many scoots with that van. you have to take the seats out, but they leave great cargo strap attachment points. it rolls right into the side door great, mirrors usually have to come off, but the sliding side door has a taller opening than the rear.

What kind of scoot? I have a Helix clone...it's a BIG scooter and I can't imagine it fitting in a minivan.

I actually preferred a Ford Winstar that I took my Derbi home in than the pain it would have been loading it up into my Jeep, the deck height is so low I loaded that bad boy without any help. Don't think it would comfortably fit anything bigger than a 150, although my scooter fit sideways between the two sliding doors with the backseat still in!! Minivans get great fuel economy and are very practical whether you're hauling stuff or people.
