my friend did a bbk last year on his 50cc gy6, and ran great last year and beginning of this year, now it is starting to run slow only around 25mph, tried cleaning the carb, there was some varnish in the bowl disassembled and soaked in carb cleaner and blew out with compressor, no change thought maybe the cvt nothing wrong there, tried compression test, compression is good, any thoughts on this would be great we are both stumped on this

You would think the compression would be low if the valves were tight... How old is the belt? The air filter is clean and clear right?? Spark plug is newish, yes?

Well an engine only needs 3 things to run, spark, gas, air. All you'e got to do is get them there at the right time..

Check the Variator weights. I am sure it was run hard and the variator may be hanging it up and not allowing the weights to move out. Alleyoop

At wot does it bog or just run up to around 25mph and that is it. Does the motor make any kind of sounds at wot? How are the RPMS if the motor is not cranking out the rpms I would suspect LOW COMPRESSION. Also check to make sure the throttle cable is actually opening the butterfly all the way. You can test it by hand turn the Throttle control wheel by hand and hold it wide open and then twist the throttle all the way and then let go holding the wheel if the wheel moves back it is not opening all the way.
I have seen it many times they twist the throttle really hard trying to get more out of it and sometimes the control wheel will move on the screw and or stretch the cable. Alleyoop
