I hit my first 100 miles yesterday. Getting more comfortable riding in the city. Scooter attracts a lot of attention. Perfect strangers come up with comments ranging from, "Are you crazy? I'd be scared to death." to "WOW! I would love to have one of those!"
I have come up with a couple questions for you guys.
1. For you people who live in Florida. Is it legal to park on the sidewalk at shopping centers? I see a few people doing it but I don't want to risk it if it isn't legal down here.
2. Any tips from you guys on hot seats? Sometimes I just can't find shade to park in and when I come out the seat is super hot. Makes for an uncomfortable ride and I imagine it is not good for the seat itself.

hmm That might work. I have some of that material here and a sewing machine. I'll try making one. Thank you.

Depends on the city really. There is no state statute that I know of. In Gainesville, it just depends on the mood of the cop that sees it and if it's downtown or not. There are a lot of scooters here though; lots of college kids on them. So it's not like the occasional rare person with a scooter. I would find the non-emergency number for your local police department and give them a call and ask.

I have used a sidewalk as long as away from the door or a display . I mostly chain up to the buggy return bin . I carry a white towel to cover up the seat as it gets hot in the sun

remember when you are out shopping or whatever to lock it up! not just a wheel lock but chain it up to a tree or post. Our local mall has racks for both bicycles and motorcycles to lock up to

I am usually out with my husband and we usually wheel lock both scooters then chain them both together since we just have 1 long thick cable lock. Think that is sufficient or should we also try for a pole?

Think that is sufficient or should we also try for a pole? That should be ample for most places. A typical put-put scooter weighs about 250lbs. Not going to be easy to pick one up because of the bulkiness let alone two.

I carry a white trash bag under the seat for when I have to park out in the sun. Just open the seat fully, slide the trash bag over the open seat tucking it in about the hinge and then close the seat over it. The latch works through the bag and with it like that the wind is not going to blow it away. Keep track of which side has the marks from the latch on it and it won't leak on top so you seat also stays dry when it rains and the seat is always free of bird droppings, etc. When the bag gets worn out just pull another one from the box or roll you have in the garage. I usually have a few spares rolled up in a ziplock baggie under the seat. I do the same when I transport the bike on the trailer or carry rack. Cheap, quick and easy. If I can't find large enough white ones the black will do almost as well. These at Dollar General will last me about 6 months per bag at 18.75 cents per bag: www.dollargeneral.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=trash%20bags&origkw=Trash+bags&sr=1

I use to park my 250cc scooter on the sidewalk, but it was in a small town of 2000 people. Cops never bothered me. Neighbor parked his 1800cc Harley on the sidewalk too. It depends where you are located( small towns don't mind but big cities do)..

A group of lowlifes pull up to the "Merchandise" in a van or pickup, and working together, can have it loaded and gone in the blinking of an eye. LOCK UP YOUR SCOOT... (to some immovable object) It may not stop them even then, but why make it easy?
