Hey everyone, Last week my scoot got stolen right in front of my apartments (I live on the good side of town, or so I thought). I just moved here in March for my new job since graduating. I have the scoot registered with the state, but I never insured it, therefore I cannot file a claim with theft insurance :/ My question is for other people who have gotten their scoots stolen and recovered. How long did it take for police to find it? Unless of course they tore it up for parts. I have posted fliers around the area, but no leads so far. When should I just loose hope and move on? I bought it broken down almost 2 years ago for getting around college easier and fixed it up. It always had problems, but I was always working on it and loved to work on it, you guys on the forums helped me so much when I first got it and I appreciated every response I would get. It is more of an emotional loss to me than anything. I will learn from this in the future and next time buy some locks to hopefully deter thieves from wanting to steal. Thanks in advance for any and all responses! P.S. A warning to all thinking junky scooters wont get stolen, mine was very ugly looking (scratches all over, melted headlamp, broken pieces, etc). Here in PCB once they are gone you can give up finding them. So many people have scooters here that they will be tore down and used for parts and before days end. It makes it harder to recover because people can take them inside and strip them in a couple of hours.

Post on your Craig's List in the motorcycle for sale by owner section. Include a good brief description and a couple good identifying photos. If you can offer any kind of reward I've heard that always helps.
Good luck, I hope you get it back!

when my cavalier got stolen i gave up hope and bought another one. little over a year later i get a call that they located my car. ignition was popped but everything else was intact. SAD thing though it was 6 blocks away in a garage and they only drove it at night... so when i got it back i had two identical cars, same color and everything now i have it on blocks with the brakes pulled for my son once he passes his permit test next month...

D8 The major problem with 50cc scooters, is most States don't require Registration. So like if I lived in Kansas City, Kansas and stole a 50cc scooter, drove to Kansas City Missouri and sold it for $200, with no title( Missouri law does not make one title it). Theoredically police do very little to recover a 50cc scooter. It is not their number one agenda.. People paint them. Cops really don't pull over people riding 50cc scooters, unless they suspect something( running drugs, riding drunk, no signaling, blown headlamp, ect).. Cops just don't have time.. In Missouri, it would be easy to steal a 50cc scooter from one town and sale it in another. Most people don't keep the vin number.

I do live in Topeka, which is about an hour from the border. I am assuming if they had any brains at all that they would drive it to Missouri to sell it. I did post on the wanted section of craigslist for "scooter parts" incase they tried to part it out and I could catch them. But maybe I will try posting in Lost & Found and on the Motorcycle section to get the word out that It is stolen. I do have the VIN number and have given it to the Police as well as the Tag number. But it is very easy to just scratch off the VIN.
Thanks all

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, in today's society, with little or no Moral standards left, (and decreasing by the minute), There is no such thing as a "good side of town" anymore. Everyone is vulnerable to theft, attack or worse. Unless you live in a Gated community, you're fair game to these sub human lowlifes! The material things are nothing compaired to the emotional scarring these bas-----. inflict.

My wife got a little Zuma 50cc 2 stroke with 57 miles on it, when we sold our house to our neighbors. It did not have a title- lost by the neighbor. But anyhow, my wife traded it off for a brand new Honda Rebel, without a title on the Zuma. This was to a dealer in motorcycles. It just shows that a 50cc can be traded anywhere.. Here is her Rebel.. Chicom scooters are a prime target since they break down often and owners are looking for replacement parts for theirs.

Shall I give you the depressing part now, dw?
I check "stolen" on CL's motorcycles each week. Sometime (I think) last August, someone's blue scooter was stolen in Brookeside, or Westport. They still periodically post it. I just want to respond "Dude, I'm sorry, but after all these months you really think your little scoot is gonna' show, in one piece?"
But maybe hopefully yours got lifted by someone who needed a ride and wanted it free. So it'll be recoverable. We'll hope.
