Isn't the ignition coil and ignition pickup the same thing

Nope the pick-up tells the coil when to fire. (actually tells the CDI to tell the coil when to fire)

The CDI builds up voltage from the stator and then when the Flywheels "F" mark rotates under the PICK UP COIL a small amount of voltage is sent to the CDI to tell it the CDI to release the stored voltage to the COIL the COIL in turn takes the 400 volts released from the CDI and convets it to anywhere from 20000-40000 volts to fire the plug. [replyingto=alleyoop]alleyoop[/replyingto]I have not had a chance to look yet,,but what wire is our tach spliced into?,,I would think the pickup wire cause of the amount of voltage on the other hot wire to coil,,and I know its not the AC wire that feed lights. Would like to know for future reference thanks!

Recently I replaced my fuel pump and it is running better then it ever did before, the hill I had trouble is not a problem anymore but I still having some issues. 60 and above it will jerk or like hicup but not shut off, not as bad as before, but would like to solve this problem (going down hill is worst it really jerks pretty good when I'm backing off the throttle, and my speed is rising I have turn my a/f twice leaner and now at 2 1/2 turns. I'm starting to think maybe my problem is that pickup coil we are talking about here. What do you guys think

Originality, recheck your valves. Make sure the int is .004 in thousandsth and exh is .005-.006 in thousandsth. That wont cost u anything and is very important.
Richard, what kind of cond and how old is your belt and same with your clutch. When u back off throttle going down hill and ur speed increases your belt is being relaxed somewhat as the variator and clutch change their positions and what appears to be a hiccup culd be the belt jumping around is deceiving u. If its strong up to 60 mph, sound as tho ur engine is ok.

Hi Barnie, The belt been on there since I got scoot, the last time I was in the clutch area the belt look good lettering still on there. I have notice that I get a rough idle like it missing, but doesn't stall. when it starts this hicup or jerking. if I back off to a lower speed I'm good. If that belt was put on thw wrong way, would that make any difference?

[replyingto=originalitykills]originalitykills[/replyingto]Its easy to check the pet cock/pump,,just pull the fuel line that goes to the carb off and crank it over,,if fuel spurts out,,you have eliminated the pump as the culprit. You can also pull the vacuum line off the T and suck on it,,fuel should spurt out the fuel side,,DONT SUCK ON THE WRONG LINE!!!!
