Jet, you can tell if rotor is warped easy enough, just slip the caliper off and vise grip a screw driver tip against the rotor and turn the wheel (a makeshift dial indicator) and u will see if rotor is warped. If wheel turns free u will know its the rotor or it is possible the rotor is a little warped and caliper is sticking a little of which u may get by with just a little maintenance. Otherwise you can change just the rotor and paint the existing wheel, the back wheel doesn't show to much anyway. My fan kicks on when temp guage hits the 1/2 way mark and stays on till temp drops back to about 3/8 on guage. If a used scooter has had care and routine maint, it will show in its apprearance. If the appearance is not pleasing to the eye chances are they didn't take care of it mechanically either. Be learing on this one. Use your gut feeling. You don't want to spend a decent amount of money on purchase and then spend a lot more in repairs. Scooter Professor forum has a great list of places to obtain parts for these. Have fun!! My dash also has a green lite that comes on when ever my fan is on. Barnie

The return spring for the throttle is on the end of the throttle plate shaft. Take the cover off engine under seat and follow the throttle cable down to the side of carb. See if that spring is unhooked or broken when you turn the throttle. Barnie

Jetcock, also I have a JCL MP250A and it seems to pull and have more power with 2 on it than 1. It will roll at hiway speeds no problem. Will slow a little on long grades but they are no Harley. A 250 (preferably the linhai257 engine) should be more than enough for what you want. Barnie

Jetcock, most of the 150's that I have seen have a drum brake on it, so watch that. Also if it catch's when you turn the wheel it may have gear problems. Unless you get a real steal on it, it sounds as tho it's not had the best of care and at 9000 miles personally myself I would keep looking especially if your girlfriend may ride it. There are a lot of good ones out there. Barnie

Kensworld, I think if it were mine and the engine is still strong I would just pull the case off gear assy and inspect the gears. Visually look at gears as u move wheel and see how much play there is. A quarter in more play after 22000 miles does not seem much to me. I personally would not be afraid of it is there is no gear noise or gear jerk when riding. But if you are leary of it then for peace of mind like Spandi stated now would be the time to change it our. There is not much holding the engine in. Worse part at it is removing the rear body. Barnie

Keltex, I have a JCL MP250a with the linhai 257 engine and I put a 3" extension tip on my windshield and I wear a full face helmet and notice no buffeting unless its real windy hitting me from the side and then it really only wants to move the whole scooter but my head will remain nice and steady. Congrats on new scooter, I'm sure you will enjoy it. Been riding mine for 5 yrs and it runs better every year. They just need a steady eye watching ovr them and steady maintenance and you shuld see miles of fun. Barnie

I agree with alley on the variator being the cause. when min 257 engine was new the Chinese had packed the aviator just plain full of grease and of course when it got hot the grease tended to melt some and flung it out and made a mess out of the inside of the cvt area. I removed all the grease and washed in clean and greased only the slides on variator. It took care of the mess and worked much smoother. Now yours being a 2008 could still have all the grease in it and has turned stiff not letting the rollers work good, or if someone has had the variator apart they may not have been careful when they put it together and the rollers are out of place and as Skuttadawg said they may be just worn out with flat spots. My JCP MP250a with the linhai 257 runs 4000 rpms at 45 mph and I still have the orig stock 14 gram rollers in it after 5 years. Did you buy in used and how many miles are on it. You very well may be looking at only a maintenance type of repair (no parts needed). When you put the variator back on be very careful to keep the ramp tight on the rollers so they don't fall out of place as you slide the variator on crankshaft. Barnie

Make sure the 2 drive tangs on the speedometer puck on the hub are lined up correctly and the guide on the puck are lined up with the guide on the inside of the fork. There is not much to the speedometer set up but they do have to be aligned correctly for it to work quietly and smoothe. You have a spacer on the right side of hub and the speedo puck acts as a spacer on left side of hub. Barnie

Richard, glad to hear its running great. Clutch settle down? Just change the belt in the future and looks like ur good to go. Don't you love the cheap little repairs that make big difference. I love the ones that don't cost me anything! Barnie

Ngman, your dad was exactly correct on the running out of fuel etc. The faster the engine runs the lower the vacumn drops and at wide open throttle or high speeds and pulling on a hill the vacumn drops enough that a some vac powered fuel pumps just don't move enough fuel till u slow up a bit and end result is carb bowl wont stay full. I have a Linhai 257 engine and I put an electric pump on to solve my problems. As far as plugging the 2nd outlet if you are comfortable with the way you have it done, then leave it alone. You just don't want gas blowing under it with a hot engine etc behind where it is plugged. You also could cut the threads off a 1/4 bolt and insert in a short pc of hose and clamp both ends also. Sure, the smallest little wall anchors would work as long as there is enough depth in the fairing. Good idea. Barnie

Like I said if it is in really good condition and taken care of its probably ok. Look at the cond/age of battery and tires etc. You don't want to pay a top price and then have to put another 75 bucks in battery and 150 bucks in tires etc. If you have to do that you need to buy it rite or keep looking. In other words if you are somewhat nervous about it then follow your gut feeling, they usually are right. If its dirty and dusty all over then that to me would say if the owner doesn't care about keeping clean etc than they probably didn't care about the rest of it either. Check it out but don't buy it sight unseen. Barnie

The Reflex is a high quality scooter. 17000 miles is not high for one. 2003 makes it 10 years old. Ask yourself do u want to invest in one 10yrs old. If its in pristine cond you would be ok. As far as the price, it all boils down to 1 question. How much is the scooter worth to you, that's it. Do a little haggling. Be a "picker". Get yourself a real buy if u think u want it!! Barnie
