So I want to purchase a scooter for pleasure to buzz around my small town. the amount of brands are a bit overwhelming. i cant even find a comparison chart of the different models and reviews seemed to be a bit limited for each model. I was hoping someone could help a beginner get started and give me some ideas on what to look for. I would greatly appreciate any info roughly what im looking for 1. decent brand maybe in the $2000 or less range not against buying used. not really big on the top tier brands because of the cost so Honda and vespa ect are out. i need the second tier brand 2. at-least a 150cc 3. 4 stroke so i can get anywhere and not have to mix my fuel. 4. i want something quiet 5. better acceleration to get into traffic. 6. i would like to be pretty agile with cornering and such 7. I have 2 kids under the age of 12 that i may double on rare occasion and I weigh about 170. I am also curious to which brands ride the best like for gravel rd's it seems some do not have shocks? any way any help would be great

Hi Welcome aboard Pleased to meet you Check out if you have a Puma Cycles dealer near you www.pumacycles.com/They are one of the higher quality Chinese scoots out there and can be had at a decent price I had one a while back and was very happy with the performance fit and finish and customer service A short ride around town on the Puma I highly recommend the brand More things to take into consideration is taking an MSF course as a 150 would need a motorcycle endorsement online2.msf-usa.org/msf/Default.aspxAlso leave some money in the budget for a helmet and riding gear ATGATT is the only way to ride imho All The Gear All The Time Take care and ride safely Yours Hank

Vespa for bragging rights. Honda/Yamaha head and shoulders above the rest for reliability. Taiwan scoots (Kymco/Sym) are middle of the road. China scoots are a mixed bag depending on which label they are made for. If you can afford fuel injection, do it. Beginner advice: Get thee to an MSF course --> online2.msf-usa.org/msf/Default.aspx It's the best investment in time and money you can make. You'll learn how to work a clutch and shifter so you can move up to a bigger bike later no problems. You also get your class "M" license rating without needing to take the road test at the DMV. All The Gear (at least 98%) Of The Time. Hat and gloves mandatory. no exceptions, then work up from there depending on your riding conditions and your budget. You don't have to spend a lot to get adequate gear. Convince yourself to get a full face hat. Yes it's more bulky. Yes it's less convenient. You'll get used to it. Anytime you have doubts, just envision a 45 mph face plant on the pavement. That chin bar is there for a reason.

I have a yamaha Vino I bought used 3 years ago. Been very reliable. Haven't needed to do anything with it at all. Used to ride it on the dirt roads when I lived in Ohio and it took them great.

[replyingto=pmatulew]pmatulew[/replyingto]Nothing middle of the road with scoots from Taiwan! I own a 2008 SYM RV250 and it's one of the best bikes that I have ever owned! Most of my bikes have been the top three motorcycles, the last being a Yamaha VStar 1100. My SYM is right up there with the top three...just not as well known. I have had no issues what so ever except for what I did myself. I hit a large piece of wood that was in the middle of a curve that flew up and cracked my radiator. I was amazed that I didn't go down and very thankful! That has been repaired and other than that, routine maintenance is all that I've done. I put on a bigger windshield, a rack and top box, and deer whistles and the rest is stock. Every time I turn the key, she starts right up and off we go! No sir...I have to say that SYM is absolutely a top notch brand. I've heard nothing but good about the other bikes made in Taiwan, but I have no real experience with them so can't comment. Check out Craig's list and you may come across an amazing deal! That's what I did and got this bike for $2000.00 and it was like new! Only had a little over 2,500 miles on it and was owned by a lady that practiced with it around her subdivision. Her husband bought her a motorcycle so she sold the scoot to me. I've had it for two years now and ride it every chance that I get! I love it!
