If only I had asked the best way to raise my credit score to eventually buy a car... This thread would be going the completely opposite direction in that case.

Nobody likes debt less than me. I think it is Ok for to use it to make your scooter safe. Just pay it off fast and save for future purchases. Yes you can save up to buy a car, we did it when I was a kid.

yeah if yours is old and in bad shape and has alot of miles order a new scoot, i have two one brand new and my other is in good shape with 1500 miles Some scratches here and there, but just a busted mirror, busted brake caliper, and busted air filter. My scooter only has 2,350 and I've only driven it 1k of those miles A lot of problems for such a low mileage bike. Sounds more like you just need to patch that airbox and save up for a 250. I did just the "what was required" repairs on my GY6 150 bike when it had between 8,500 and 10,000 miles on it (can't remember the exact miles) and got an $800 trade in allowance on a new Aprilia at a factory incentive price of $2,999 and a dealer interest rate of 2.5%. Got lots more power, interstate capability and much better fuel economy without all the trial and error costs of failed upgrades which can end up costing much more over the long run.

lykos, you CAN use a credit card successfully, as long as you use it like cash. Pay it off each month, don't ever carry a balance. Keep aware of how much you've charged vs how much you can safely spend, and don't over-charge!
Yes, paying cash is considered best. But then, my university gets a percentage from what I buy. That's free money to the scholarship fund there. So to me, it makes better sense for me to charge, then pay off.
Just always remember how too-easy it is to pull out that little plastic card.
As for the parts, can't advise you on those, sorry.

Got lots more power, interstate capability and much better fuel economy without all the trial and error costs of failed upgrades which can end up costing much more over the long run. ...There's only three problems I can think of though! The brake calipers are failing because I originally put my tire on wrong with the brake disc installed BEHIND the brake pads so it rubbed against the caliper and ruined it. It took A LOT of sanding to get all the melted metal off of the brake disc. The air filter, not airbox, is a cheap Em-Go brand I got for $7 off of Amazon. The rubber tube thing ripped on it due to vibration. It's only $16 for a new UNI filter, which I went ahead and ordered off of Amazon because I can't find any UNI filters from any other site. The mirrors are busted because I put my bike up on its kickstand in the dirt and and then the kickstand sunk into the dirt then fell over, cracking my mirror in half. The mirrors sucked to begin with so I just want new mirrors so I can see behind me. Those are my only three problems; other than some scratches the bike is in perfect condition. Here's a small list of SOME of what I've done to this bike so far: New Spark Plug - NGK CR7HSA ✔ New-er Iridium Sparkplug - NGK CR7HIX ✔ Change oil-10w-30 ✔ Change Oil At 1000 miles (Castrol GTX 10w40) ✔ Change gear oil 80w- ✔ remove cockroach ✔ Install Throttle Case Assembly (the thingy that controls the throttle on the handlebar) ✔ Install New CVT Belt - 669 18 30 ✔ de-restrict (if possible) (no restrictions found) ✔ Install new battery (YTX5L-BS) ✔ P! ✔ Adjust Valves .004 in/out ✔ Adjust Idle ✔ Clean Carb ✔ Adjust A/F ✔ Remove airbox and replace with freeflow filter ✔ Re-Jet main jet - Main Jet ✔ Re-Jet Idle - 38 Pilot Jet ✔ Get new kickstarter ✔ Get new turn signal bulbs (R10W12V-E13-282) ✔ Get High Performance Ignition Coil ✔ Get New Performance CDI - (AC) ✔ Get New CVT Sliders - three 9g and three 4g for a total of 6.5grams to match the stock roller weight of 6.5g ✔ Change Clutch Springs - 2000rpm ✔ Get new V-Slides (139qmb NOT Gy6 150) ✔ Install Big Bore Kit - 81cc ✔ Get Performance Exhaust - ✔ This bike runs GREAT and I've only got 30 miles into a new bbk I don't understand why you guys keep recommending I get a new bike The total amount of money I will be spending is... $ .80 USD and then I'll be set for a very, very long time. My mother's best friend was killed on a motorcycle, so anything higher than 150cc is out of the question too... itistheride.boards.net/index.cgi?board=50ac&action=display&thread=2223Thanks, Kat! That's exactly what I was thinking. Plus I get 1% cash back on all purchases with 0APR for 14 months. It will essentially be just like spending the money I'm going to be getting in the near future. As long as I take it easy on that card there should be no worries. And when it comes to brakes; one of the most essential parts of riding, I figure I shouldn't wait at all. As far as the parts go, I decided to go with a high quality UNI filter instead, and I added some rear brakes to my cart. Can't be too safe.

The problem is that when 0% APR stops it often jumps up to over 20%. You have a window of time when you can use it and it is the easiest way to order things online.
When you use a credit card and pay on time, your credit rating will improve and you may start getting offers from other "card dealers". You can then turn over what you owe on the first card before the APR changes to a new card. I have done this before but don't recommend it.
Just buy what you can afford on a monthly basis AND PAY IT OFF EVERY BILLING. Use the card to improve your credit rating...even groceries and local stuff.
It is okay to use their services...but don't pay for it with disgusting APRs.

My scooter is working great! The only problem is safety. Right now my old filter seems to be holding up with it taped on, but I don't know how long that will last. Otherwise my scooter is in great condition. I'll be sure to keep an eye on the belt for extra wear. Thanks!
True. I let my mother use the card sometimes for groceries and such in hopes that I'll be eventually increasing my credit rating. I always pay my bills on time, and I try not to let my credit accrue.
Once my APR stops it'll be roughly 18% so you're right on that, it's pretty high.
I'm doing my best to not have to pay the APR, it's like throwing money at an imaginary friend or something because the APR isn't justified by anything other than the imagination of the credit card company.
Yup. I hope to be even more careful on my scooter, but we'll see. ;D

i've heard a lot of bad things regarding scrappy as well, BUT what I have heard is that whatever it is that you see online call ahead of time to make sure that they have it in stock so you have a faster delivery time.
I have yet to order from them i'm an ebay shopper (well my wife is) i tell her exactly what i want she finds it, double checks it with me then orders. We never place bids and try and win, if its not buy now we dont buy.

That makes sense. I have heard that also, to call ahead. Now I've decided to give scrappy a chance, but I hate calling people and they're the only ones that stock my brake calipers for cheaper than $35 so I'm just gonna order and hope for the best, I don't have much choice if I want the most affordable brakes that are also reliable.
I don't shop ebay very often and when I have it has often ended in disappointment. I prefer to shop Amazon and Newegg.com. With most of my scooter parts being ordered from Mainely Scooters - through Amazon. So far my only disappointment with them is that I accidentally ordered GY6 variator V slides and asked to cancel the order but they didn't respond, so now I have some useless V slides brand new just sitting here...
Aside from the bad reviews, mixed up parts, and late orders, what you're saying is all I hear about them. Nobody can deny the quality it seems. I want reliable brakes, so I'd normally order from Absolutely Scooters an hour away from me, but they cost $8 more, so I've decided to go with Scrappy's because it seems that if anything they are reliable, with excellent customer service.
