Very nice with the performance muffler, sounds great GOOD JOB. The first one had a leak that was obvious. Now break it in right do not rod the heck out of it right off the bat put some miles on it varying the speeds every couple of minutes to let the rings seat good and not at wot. You can run it up after 50miles or so and see what it can do and if you are ruuning lean at Wide Open Throttle. Alleyoop Thanks for the tip, Alley! I upjetted to a jet and am hoping that was good enough, if not I'm prepared to order another set of jets. I'm happy to hear your advice that I only have to wait 50 miles and not 500 like I've read elsewhere, I'm prepared to change my oil frequently as well, I hear there might be metal chunks. It's my only ride so I'll be sure to treat it as good as I can and follow your advice. My BBK was surpisingly decent quality. I tested the whole thing with a magnet and the only thing that was steel was the cylinder wall.

If it is sealed and it doesn't show carbon build up around the mating area you might be ok. The main thing is to make sure all the HOT exhaust is leaving the area so it doesn't burn up your head. If alley and millsc say it sounds fine it likely is ok. Keep an eye on it...

it sounds great now, did you put a gasket in it and did you change the head? I still can't find a gasket for it anywhere. I didn't have one to begin with and I can't seem to find one in my set of gaskets, nor did one come with the performance exhaust. I'm stumped and I guess I'll have to order one from somewhere.

I'm worried about my scoot, and I'll be sure to take it easy and order a gasket, but I have no choice but to ride it here and there in the mean time.

you do need the gasket even though it sounds good at this time, probably won't mess anything up at this point, you may have a gasket on it sure sounds as if you do

Be gentle at first and try to ride in the midrange while going up and down on the throttle to do a midrange break in . This is how I do mine rather than a hard break in like some do . My Echarm has over 16k miles and does not leak nor use any oil . I used a MJ on my 50mm BBK with airbox and stock pipe

I guess I should be be upjetting too, soon I'm definitely going to avoid WOT. I'll be taking the back roads where I only have to go 25mph and after I break it in and set the rings I'll be cruising on to places I couldn't go to before

ride away and faster than before its a great feeling This scooter is now my pride and joy after all the hard work I put into it. I think that's the greatest feeling about it all, the fact that I did all the work on it; it makes it personal. I haven't even put the brakes back on yet, but I definitely have a great feeling about this already ;D

Your on your way, can do all your repairs and personalize your ride yourself its a great feeling, i knew nothing when i started, now i repair scoots as a job When I googled BBK threads on scootdawg I saw postings of your progress; from your first bbk to now, it's really impressive! That must be an awesome job, like that confucius saying that if you work doing something you love you never work a day in your life kind of thing. When I started with the zook I had no prior experience. When I started working on my Peace Sports 50 I had no prior experience with chinese motors, but lots of experience with the zook and figuring out how to get it running smooth. First thing I did was get an ngk sparkplug, which until now I thought was iridium - the guy who sold it to me told me it was (shame on me for believing a salesman). In only 5 months I've made quite a bit of progress!

Congrats on the install! A BBK was the first thing I did on mine and it is much easier to install than new owners think. Too bad you are just out of reach being in Mchenry. I'm in Chicago.

DO NOT run it without the exhaust gasket do whatever it takes to make it work. Good job so far don't throw it all away by running without a gasket I totally agree. Make sure to get gasket on there. You don't want to throw away all your hard work & money... Dave
