I have just over 1900 miles on my 150,most of which was put on it the winter months! I change oil every 500mi at most,I think the oil would be good for a few thousand miles if these gy6 motors had an oil filter.I change it so soon to eliminate as much debris as possible, every time I drain it the oil looks new,so I'm sure it still has all its lubricating properties.

My Vog 260 just turned over 8,500 miles. I had some growing pains but the good people at scootdawg and its extensive bank of archived knowledge got me through it all. Best hobby I've ever had.

Most oil keeps the lubricating abilities well beyond 3k miles. Like you say, it's because of the particles in the oil, chinese scoots have a lot of particles. I change it every 1000km, or every ~620 mi. The oil still looks good, but it has things in them. I tried once to change it at 1000mi but the oil was way too dirty, black and all....

I change every 1000 miles... I think thats a fair time. It looks good upon oil change and 1000 miles comes quick with me. But, now that I have my license suspended I may change that, not sure. I think 1000 is fair, anyone else doing it the same??

I guess for a 150 and 250 the mileage is different. I used to change my BMS260's oil also every 1000 miles. It was still good. I think larger displacement engines have less tolerance issues, and are more efficient. I think for 50cc engines 1000 miles will have you black oil (tried it before).

Thank you guys and girls for all the wonderful replies so far!,,I have 190 Km on my Taotao 150 so far and other than a couple nuts and bolts coming loose it runs like a champ,,changed oil to rotella, gear to super tech synthetic, upgraded vac and fuel lines filter, have a gates belt, keihin 24mm carb, progress AC cdi,UNI POD,P&P exhaust, and jet kit all coming soon,,other than getting it to breath a little easier I may just try the sliders and Koso variator and thats where I draw the line. Scoot on guys and girls!!! Tommy

I replaced the before mentioned JonwayYY250T with a '07 Honda Reflex that had 15,200 on the odometer. I've put nearly 2000 on it in the last two months or so. In about a week I'm leaving on a 5000 mile cross country trip on it. (Sorry, that is a Honda, not Chinese as asked at the beginning of the thread.)

my atm-50 has 8,400 km on the odometer. the previous owners didn't take good care of this scoot so who knows how many miles/km i can realistically get out of this machine. i hope to just put enough into it to keep it running until november and then buy new.

I've been working on small motors my whole life over 35 years,,as fast as these little GY6 motor spin, and as hot and hard as they work,,I would change it every 1000 Km like mentioned above,,its only 1 quart,,very cheap insurance,,if using synthetic maybe a little longer but not much cause we have no filtering in these engines and carbon is carbon to me.If the oil is dark brown,,its over due in my book. Scoot on my fellow scootarians
