I have heard that you check the oil level 3 different ways:
One-check it with the dip stick inserted but not screwed in and the oil level should be half way up the crosshatched markings.
Two- check it with the dip stick inserted but not screwed in and the oil level should be all of the way up to the top of the crosshatched markings.
Three- Check it with the dipstick screwed in and the oil level should be all the way up to the top of the crosshatched markings
What is the learned opinion of this group?

I like to do it #1 and #3, And really when you really think about it and try it, doing it the #2 way is only 1 oz more of oil. Alleyoop |

what alley said. either way if oil is showing anywhere on the stick you are good to go. i check both my Taiwanese gy6 based scoots with the stick in as that is what my dealer said to do. with the stick screwed in it shows nearer full. with it screwed out it shows on the stick, but lower. either way you're good to go as long as not too overfull or under all is right  |

To get the most accurate reading this is what I do on a Znen retro 150cc.
1. Put scooter on center stand on flat ground and make sure the rear wheel is touching the ground.
2. Run scooter for 1 minute. Shut it of and let it rest for 1 minute.
3. Check oil with dip stick inserted but not screwed in, and oil should cover two thirds of the hashed markings. (or anywhere from half mark to just above that)

That being said, even if the oil is all the way up the dipstick, unscrewed, there's no real harm for the engine. Just don't go too far past that top line!

What about the bushings?
What bushings are they talking about?
I never greased anything on my scoot. Any advise on how to do it, and what to choose?

That being said, even if the oil is all the way up the dipstick, unscrewed, there's no real harm for the engine. Just don't go too far past that top line! I have found that if I fill it where it is all the way up the dip stick unscrewed, I keep getting blow-by oil until the level is down to about 2/3 of dipstick markings, unscrewed. This is why I recommended getting it to between 1/2 to 2/3 of markings, unscrewed. There may be difference between scooters, I don't know... |

According to my owners manual and the Haynes manual, it should be at the top "x" when screwed out, and level.

I pour 8/10ths of a quart in my 50 and 150 and that brings me to both a half stick screwed in which is adequate for both applications

Do you guys check the oil with the rear wheel touching the ground or with the front wheel touching the ground (on center stand of course)?
The difference on my scooter is about 1/3 of the area marked on the dip stick (it looks more full when the rear wheel is touching the ground).

Center stand. In most cases you have to put the scoot on the center stand in order to be able to fit an oil pan under it.
On the center stand, front wheel automatically touches the floor.
For taking oil out the scoot, sometimes it helps tilting it to the right a bit (away from the side stand peg), or with the rear wheel down on the floor. That will allow more dirty oil to come out of the engine.
