Some people swear by Japanese made scooters. Some say they would never own a Chinese scooter.. Well, if I recall right, the same is said about Harley Davidson. If you don't ride a Harley, well you are not riding a true motorcycle. See, none of these so called companies are loyal to us. Harley Davidson has parts shipped from Asia. Ford, Chevy, GMC, Chrysler, ect.. have parts made all over the world. Why? Because the labor is cheap in foriegn countries and thus, they can make a bigger profit off you. Is this right? No, because we put loyalty in certian name brands. We think they will always be true American products. So when someone says, they will never own a Chinese scooter, remind them that the world is about the almighty dollar and companies don't really care about the people. I own a Chinese scooter because it runs decently and the price is 1/3rd of competitors prices. I want to hang on to all the money I can... Attachments:

Why buy a Chinese scooter? 1. I save gas money. 2. I will not get stuck in queues. 3. It is much more fun to drive a scooter than a car. 4. Parts are cheap and they are easy to repair. 5. We will be more driving around on scooters because of the above.

You forgot to mention: - Low insurance, and most of all: - 1/3rd to 1/4th the price of Japanese models, for 3/4 to 1/2 the quality.

Why buy chinese scooters? Because you can find broken ones on Craigslist dirt cheap, and with a basic knowledge of the workings, fix them up for next to nothing. I bought this scooter for $150. The transmission was broken and it wasn't titled. It ended up just being a broken belt on the transmission, $30. The title work ended up being a $200. So, I ended up getting a perfectly legal working scooter for around $500.

Because once the bugs are worked out, you'll have a reasonably reliable machine that can be repaired and maintained by you at a fraction of the cost in labor and parts. (it can also be upgraded over time with higher end stuff and a nearly endless catalog of "goodies")

[replyingto=spandi]spandi[/replyingto]Because...Japan has contracts with China to make their parts as it is cheaper....they are mostly just assembled in Japan..then sold for a higher price to increase their profit margin. According to my wholesaler MANY Harley parts are now made in China. She said her annual revenue is about 30% Harley parts sold to the U.S. Mirrors.....lighting....electrical parts...carbs and other parts are made there..shipped here...then 'Assembled' ...not 'Built' in the U.S. This too gives them a higher profit margin. Not bad mouthing Harley...I owned a 1995 Sportster 883.Yes I know the 883 gets called a "Girls Bike" by Hawg owners because it is not 1,200cc..lol.. but I am only 5' 8" and a 145lbs. I tried a Super Glide but was too big for me. Of course they depreciate more slowly than Chinese scoots.. New price was $4,395 rode it for 18 years. A guy wanted it badly for his wife because the 'Lake Placid Blue' sparkle paint was a rare option. Sold it for $3,600. So in reality I lost nothing. I got 18 years of riding for the price difference of $795. But he was happy because it was way less than the new price at that time..which was right at $,7000 if I remember correctly. But I love my Chinese scoots. Low cost and really decent scoots if you take care of them. Price is right..and that how we ended up with a family fleet of 5...had they been Japanese we'd only afford 2 and there would be no family rides to the beach etc... To be honest we've never really had a a major prob with any of them...just minor easy fixes. So ya won't hear me complain..

I'm glad I started with a china scooter. Its been a lot of headache and checking stuff but I've learned a lot.
I could only imagine if I paid for a name brand I wouldn't have learned as much, I'd probably be to afraid to fix anything myself and shell out money at a shop.
I'd have to have a big name scooter and own it as long to really know how much better it would be for more money

You know I asked this same question about a year ago & had a boxing match with Carasdad about this. Not all Chinese scooters are made the same! I understand this now. My Kymco Super 8 150cc is made in China & I love it! Also...I'm going to pull the rigger on a Bintelli (Znen-made) Havoc 150cc here in August: www.bintelli.com/150cc/havoc-150ccYes...Carasdad...Rejoice! I'm semi-converted! The Bintelli line-up has simply too much to offer for the asking price! Most (not all i.e. Tao-Tao) are getting better each year. Yes...Taiwanese scooters are better built, but use many Chinese made parts, so....it's how well the QC is in China. So many scooter manufactures are made in China/Thailand today. It's up to the company that makes them (Piaggio, SYM, Kymco, Honda. Yamaha etc.) What I like about Bintelli is they have a full-time employee @ the Znen factory to make sure their product is top-notch!

Something to consider... Take a look at your cell phone... If you have a high end andriod or an Iphone, chances are they were built in China... If you have a cell phone (like mine) chances are it too was made in China. You can get high quality goods or dollar store quality goods out of China. It is more about the spec a particular item was made to and the quality control used to evaliate the final product.
