Going to work today, scooter shut off, pulled fuel line to carb and cranked it nothing comes out, then sprayed carb cleaner in diaphragm twice before it would start, got it home and tried to start again; it would run a few seconds and then shut off, after few more I got it running again, I think I have either a bad or weak fuel pump, I'm going to buy one soon. any advice in which one to buy? Tonight I'm going remove fuel pump and open it up and see whats going on with it Attachments:

Good idea Dave, I'll check it out later to day, but I've had this problem off and on for a long time. All new fuel line, vacuum lines, fuel filter, I adjusted the float in carb, about only thing I haven't replaced was the fuel pump

Check the VENT on the gas tank, Crack the fuel cap from its locked position and see if fuel then comes out. The gases inside the tank create pressure and If the tank VENT is clogged it will stop the fuel from flowing. Alleyoop

Alleyoop, I think I found out what it was, tight valves when I did the last valve adjustment was when it broke down, We did a quick valve adjustment, and recently I got thinking ( scoot wasn't cold enough, Alley recently start quick, as I ride and stop my idle kept crashing low, couldn't keep the idle up. The exhaust was a .003 and the intake was also tight hard to get a .003 in it (dumb) Just finished up, start good and sound good, hopefully it fix now.

Thanks Richard. (I replaced mine anyways as the Chinese stuff has a rep for failure. ) One less thing to worry about.

I ended up putting an electric fuel pump on my scoot. It still would not deliver fuel flow to the carb. It ended up being that the fuel filter had a hole in it from corrosion and it was sucking air. I may not even have had a bad vacuum fuel pump but am not sorry that I installed an electric pump as I read about lots of problems with them. A nice thing about an electric fuel pump it that if the carburetor evaporates dry or you work on it and the bowl is dry the starter doesn't have to be run to pump fuel to fill it. I live in a hot a hot dry climate carb can evaporate dry quit quickly. If you run out of gas the electric fills the carb quickly.
