Been on the site browsing around to solve my problems and cant quite get there. My wifes scoot runs fine... once you get it started, but after running it shortly then letting it sit, it will leak gas from the carb through the air intake tube and out the back of the air box. I've checked the petcock and it seems fine( no gas flowing unless bike is running or cranking). Ive taken the carb bowl off (not easy because of the sealed fasteners). I've adjusted the float 3 times now and each time it continues to leak fuel. The 3rd time I set the float i attached a hose to the fuel port and blew through it. I set the float so that it was barely letting any air through and the slightest pressure on the float would close the needle. Needle seems to be seating properly as it stopped the air flow as I was blowing through the tube. Any suggestions or something I may be missing? Scoot is BRAND new! Just bought it 2 weeks ago and havent put more than 30km on it. Gotta get it fixed to make the wife happy!

Well if you did all that and it still floods, I would say the float is sticking on its swivel or on the sides inside the bowl. So need to take the carb off and recheck the float for any movement sideways or not swiveling up and down as easly as it should. If worse comes to worse get an after market carb and be done with it.
By the way what scoot 50cc or 150 or 250 etc.. Alleyoop

It's the 50cc taotao. Float didn't seem to be sticking although when I first opened it up it was "bottoming out" on the top half of the carb. Like it wasn't able to lift all the way to shut the needle off. After I adjusted it, it wasn't hitting anymore and seemed to be pivoting ok. I was considering an aftermarket keihin on ebay for $35 but the price seemed to good to be true keihin.

Ok, it is a 4 stroke and has the 139QMB motor in it. The new ones the carb usually come with the bowl screws cut off and the Fuel Ratio Mixture plugged up so you cannot adjust the carb. Your better off just getting an after market carb with the fue ratio mixture not plugged and the carb bowl screws not cut off. The carb is most likly a 18 or 19mm Carb with a pump on it. New Carbs are cheap under $30.00 bucks. Alleyoop

Yea that is a KNOCK Off notice it says DESIGNED IN JAPAN(HEHE). But in either case that is a good carb. Just about all the carbs are great the real ones they clean them up on the outside and have a differnet Float but they all operate the same way.
Yea if you saw it sticking when you took it off something is hanging it up once in awhile causing it to flood. I have a knock off on mine 3 1/2 years 24mm carb and it works just great. Alleyoop

k, thanks for the help. Now to convince the wife to let me pull the trigger. She can't grasp the concept that it's only money. Every 2 weeks my bank account refills itself.

Replace the fuel filter. It lets trash through and causes the problem. Mine did it all the time, Replaced the fuel filter and no more leaky leaky.

Thanks for the replies. I went ahead and popped for the one I originally linked to. I did it last night. Now to wait for it to come in so I can get the wife on the road again.

Good man, now don't forget the Fuel Ratio Mixture may be off. So when you get it test to see how far out it is set. Turn it clockwise till it stops and count the number of turns it took to close and turn it out the same amount. That way you know what your starting with when you fine tune it. Also once you put in on TURN THE CURVED OVERFLOW hose hanging down near the top of the carb STRAIGHT UP and put 2 ozs of fuel down it PRE-PRIME the carb bowl Alleyoop

I had the same problem last weekend. The float needle jet retainer had partially slipped off it's holding tab which allowed it to not close.
