Well I thought it was fixed it starts and runs in the garage well it idles with a barely noticeable miss. If you give it gas it will start to rev and then pop (a nice little backfire from the exhaust) I've adjusted the air mixture but it also misses occasionally at idle. I've adjusted and readjusted the valves it starts as quick as I've seen. Just replaced CdI fuel filter voltage regulator an stater and pickup I think that covers it thanks to whoever checks in

You have an air leak in the exhaust system. Cold air is entering the exhaust and causing unburied fuel to ignite.

I tightened up the exhaust the miss is still there but no backfires at idle. Put on the seat (it's new to me just wanted to feel the wind in my hair (on my arms) ) and the thing idles great but as soon as i give it more throttle it starts bucking and bogs down shakes like crazy and still get a miss and a backfire occasionally. Eventually hitting about 30 before the street ends. Any other ideas?
Replaced gasket tonight we will know whats going on tomorrow

check the fuel pump the carb is set up better for gravity feed and gas can get pulsed past the float valve after a while

Getting plenty of gas checked that, thanks for the recommendation. I want to say its the coil but I can't seem to get the right coil. It's a 2 wire I've tried 4 of them. and only the one that came with the scooter seems to work correctly the others I've gotten fire like every third or forth time it should. the coil it came with fires for a while and then once the motor is getting warm it starts acting crazy. the choke appears to be working correctly too. the carb has been cleaned twice. Just an hour ago I tried another coil and the starter started turning the motor and then just makes a spinning sound but doesn't appear to be doing anything. so I need to take it apart and clean that up and check connections 1 cleaned carb 2 replaced stator and pickup ( was reading as a short) 3 replaced CDI and replaced it again (thinking it was causing the problem not sparking enough) 4 attempted to replace the coil same time as 3 the new coil would spark about 1/3 to 1/4 as many times as it needed 5 checked and re checked valve adjustments 6 adjusted the fuel air mixture to about 1 1/2 out (might be a bit lean now harder to start) 7 replaced the exhaust gasket. 8 I'm sure I've forgotten something I just want to go for a ride at this point. Thanks for any input shouldn't just about any 2 wire coil work ?

oops yes I did that too. As I described it at the autoparts store the guy he said did it have a mouse living in it I said yes but none of the wires look bothered the loom is intact. he said he had something similar and the mouse pee corroded some connections so today I'm metering out all the wires for the ignition system.
BTW the starter clutch went out
my $120 deal is hogging a bunch of time oh well it was still a good deal

I put in an new ngk plug and new starter clutch. because mine went out. I put everything evrything together (oil too) turned the key pushed the button it started instantly ran real good for 30 seconds to a minute I gave it a little throttle and ok gave it a bunch I bogged down so I leaned it up a smidge and then it started knocking horribly it would still respond to the throttle but I shut it down. I've heard mowers make the same noise when low on oil, but my level reads ok and I had given it right around a quart and it read right on the stick on the ground not on the kickstand. Please give me an idea or should this be scrapped and cut the losses.

Make sure your air intake doesn’t have any leaks. Check the intake flange after the carb - make sure there’s no cracks in the rubber (sometimes underneath), and make sure there’s no gaps around where it joins with the engine.

I figured I should update things I took it to a shop they had it 2 weeks called and said we checked the carband monkeyed with it a total of 2 hours here is your bill, sorry it's still not working. I figured I have gas I have compression so after 3 wonky CDI's I received one that worked.
I now have only one problem I have to open the throttle half way to get the engine started and keep it at a high idle. if I let off on the throttle it dies
Any thoughts?

intake leak look for a crack or brake or loose carb

OK its going to a different shop an hour and twenty minutes away, they cant look at it for a week and then probably at least 1 week to fix if they order any parts.
It starts and idles with the first cdi but stumbles and shudders when giving throttle and really doesn't do much. The other cdi was too hard to get started and to be at all reliable and the fuel mixture was at 3.5 turns out and had to be started WOT. but it did go.
I've tried the starter fluid trick spraying it around hoses, intake manifold and airbox none of that changed the idle so there shouldn't be a leak (visual checks and feeling didn't reveal anything either)
So with the current CDI I guess the correct explanation is that it idles perfect at 1.75 turns out on the mixture screw and stumbles and almost dies if you twist the throttle. It's getting gas when I've turned it off and removed the carb the bowl is full. (the tank is lower and is pumped via vacuum)
Is it a main jet issue? or just take it to the pros in a week? or something else.
It's been a month and a half I'm tired chasing my own tail.
Thank you

OK I did everything coil, pickup and stator, starter clutch, removed the alarm system, new battery, replaced gasket for exhaust, for backfire and that did nothing, cleaned the carb so many times I can remove it completely in the dark, watched 324 videos of people who shouldn't use tools, traced wires, adjusted valves 4 times just to make sure I wasn't stupid. I tried 6 different CDIs (5 didn't work right from dead to only running high RPMs and no idle to just idle and no acceleration)
It was the stupid CDI There are apparently a number of different ones for the Linhai motors mine is the LM170MN. once you get the right one, you are in business.
Thank you everyone for your help. how would I have known it was bad.

For clarification . . which specific Linhai clone scooter model . . first 3 VIN characters? Who was the vendor for the correct CDI? Thanks for updating this thread . . should be helpful for others researching.

I will look up the VIN for everyone but is was identical body style to the Roketa Bali MC-13 250cc and apparently I purchased the last CDI from the company but I need to order a spare. I'll update this on Monday.
