I thought the Genuine Stellas were made in India? They are ,,,my 2013 I bought as a leftover was a steal just a tick over msrp,,,and other than a wonky glass tube fuse holder that was changed in favor of the blade style (purchased at oreilly )and a clutch cable that went out at 1500 miles or so and replaced and battery went out last fall and wouldn't hold charge it's been very reliable,,thank goodness the scoot has a real live kicker on it,,,even with the dead battery it still was a one or two kick bike cold,,,

The models built (Dyna, Vrod) in KC were dropped. The Thai plant is for sales in Asia. The Street line was built there. It's not being dropped. They have capability in India to supply the Asian market. The proof will come when those bikes end up here.

I'm always amazed at the manufacturing practices of good old Harley-Davidson... Having been a factory visitor and test subject for the old "Night Train" which ended up the "Super Glide" I was always happy that "Milwaukee Shakers" were REALLY still made in Milwaukee... That was then. Lately, I've noticed the new HD 500 and 750 V-Twins. Nice looking bikes, and though liquid-cooled and "modern" they still make nice AFFORDABLE (as in the price of a 350-400cc scooter) "real Harley"... Even if they've picked up the less than complimentary moniker "Hoglets". They make a low-cost "po'boy's" substitute for the Indian Scout. ONLY in appearance of course... They ain't likely to win any races, but are reported to still sound SOMETHING like a genuine Hog. Maybe... Anyway, I've wondered just WHERE they are made. All I can find is that they are supposedly (partly, maybe) assembled in Missouri from parts from India and other much more obscure places. Oh well, to get a genuine (?) Harley for under $8K I suppose those under 50 won't care where the parts come from so long as it says HARLEY-DAVIDSON" on the tank. AND, it goes "potato, potato, potato" at idle. I've seen pix of some VERY good-looking bobbers made from both the 500 and 750. That must count for something... Even though HD itself gave them the unfortunate nickname "Learner Bikes"... Cheesh… I learned to ride at 12-years old on a kick-start 53 Duo-Glide with hand-shift, suicide clutch and left twist-grip spark retard... "LEARNER BIKES"... Harley Davidson marketing: WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? These days, we have to live with our favorite bikes, cars, guns, electronics, etc. being made EVERYWHERE, from parts harvested from EVERYWHERE... Leo (figgering since I took "Minnie Mouse" somewhat apart & reassembled her some for mods, she's now made in TEXAS)
Ride safe!

In case you hadn;t noticed, the deal with China is they funnel money into ag industrial complexes pockets buying welfare crops and factory pigs, which brings in about $125 billion dollars, and we buy everything we use and buy routinely from them to the tune of a $350 billion dollar trade deficit, while funding obscene billions in welfare that go primarily into the richest pockets.
The dollars they spend here create very few good paying jobs, while the money we spend their creates all their jobs and funds their military expansion and operations, including the attacks on US infrastructure, unlawful naval bases in the south china sea and the Dong-Feng 21.

HD rode the wave with the Rebel and bad Boy thing till there Outdated tooling produced nothing but Junk, the same union pinheads ran JD and IH with that tooling, not a darn thing was straight or square in this engines and by the mid eighties was hard to find a farm tractor under 100 ptohp. made in America. Then they finally Re-tool and get away from Iron, Jeez bout time, then they were able to sell the pizz poor brakes and suspension to the new wave of wannabee rebs and Bad Boys the New Market of ignorant first time buyer the "Mid Life Crisis Bike" they ride as far as the local watering hole and stand around striking a pose in there silly uniform thats required to wear, oh ya not to forget the poor HD doing the idiotic potato potato thing that is now below minimum oil pressure and overheating, and strike another pose, go to Strokers over on Harry Hines on a thursday night and look around. ya they rode that wave for twenty some years now and have virtually Nothing to appeal to the younger market other than "Its a Harley" So hows that workin out for them?

C'mon now guys and gals,NOBODY on the site would approve of genocide of any kind. Just enforcement of the existing laws. Not a good idea these days to joke about that stuff I suppose... One of my favorite preachers often muses about his Dad chewing him out as a kid, telling him he might KILL him, and make another one just like him... Years ago in my day, you could say things like that and nobody took offense. Today, we have a nation that has made a fine art of being offended... and every word is taken literally and offensively. Part of the problem we deal with these days... Sad. Chpooerdude 'm going to make one response to this to clarify some things. First Im not going to be labeled as some sorry arse thin skinned woos who can't take a casual crude comment, I make them all the time, If your around me I say in a nonsense casual way they outa be shot. Now taking to a level putting it in print from a casual comment to round them up en mass and shoot them is a different level and then, the next level to repeat and Quote the wife, Thats were the ignorant yankee and equally ignorant wife crossed the line with me. A little history, Both my grandparents on my Mothers side were immigrants from Slovakia they came thru Ellis island the legal way, researching the village were both are from was shocking, first the Socialist Nazi's came and rounded up all the Jews, suspected Jews and gipsies, they were all lined up and shot, then once the Nazis were beat back by the Russian Communists they rounded up all the people who were left as they had no choice but to collaborate with the Nazis under there occupation and were all rounded up and shot. there was nobody left they were all lined up En Mass and Shot, if my grandparents would have not left I would not exist. The Border ya lets do that, I made a decision one night that saved my life from being shot El Chapo's cartel. We did a race in Chihuahua and my Mexican home boy rider wanted to stay with some buds in Juarez, I declined the hospitality and got a nice room in El paso, well one of the three new the wrong person and three teen cartel members put them all on the floor and shot them in the back of the head with hollow point .45acp and made his Sister watch. the inside scoop was they were about to get one guy and if you are in the room with them you all were executed, Cartel paid $1,000 US per head, Rene Reyes is his name you can look it up. And guess what? your communicating with a Shooter right now, if you are a regular evening news watcher in the DFdub you saw me on the news. Few will ever truly know the sound a bullet makes when it hits a human body, a sickening thud, oh ya up close and personal style were ya can feel his breath on your face as you blow his guts out his back. then watch the life leave the body, you or nobody wants that in there head to follow them the rest of there life. Its a horrible thing to have to do or do.

Okay gentlemen, let's stick with the topic. Congress hasn't been able to put together an immigration policy in decades and Ellis Island is closed.
I briefly owned a Kymco and it was solidly built. Except, of course it came with a fried piston and barrel because of a non-too-bright owner who ran the two stroke without oil. Unlike some I have a fair amount of miles on my China scoots and didn't experience the difficulties of some in these last ten years. I examined Wolf and Bintelli scooters and they're a long way in materials from my 2008 Bashan.
Low price Chinese 50cc scooters rule the road and can be a gateway to bigger, brand name scoots. These low cost rides are the last hope for a growing scooter market here. An increase in cost will keep people on four wheels while people who ride motorcycles will increase.

Ride safe! The US-market Street models were built in KC (moving to PA, I think). Streets are built in Bawal, India for Asian markets.

As I said. Let's wait and see. Moving the Kansas City plant to Thailand wasn't supposed to be in the plans when the closure was announced. Now suddenly moving it to "Supply the Asian Market" is their claim. Having seen how business works nothing would surprise me. You do know that Triumphs are manufactured there in addition to numerous Hondas and they are sent here. Not supplying the Asian Market.

You have some hard core miles on yer rear and I truly value your experience. theres no bs in you.. The 50's here locally are all licker sickles, these folks are down to no license and money and the 50 is there only means of transportation, a 25% or so increase on them will put a serious hurt on there weekly liquor and or meth habit..

If we had imposed these tariffs on Japan in the 70s, there would have been a lot more Triumphs, Harleys and BMWs on the street than Hondas. Imagine that. -The tariff will be rough on youngsters that depend on a scoot as their only motorized transportation. -Even with the tariff, Chinese Scoots and motorcycles will remain far more affordable than Taiwanese mounts.

Chinese workforce is a lot cheaper than US workforce, why on earth do you want a job back to the US if you can't afford to buy anything because everything will be US made and too expensive for the average Joe factory worker?.
The golden years of the 50s where a factory worker could buy a house, a brand new car and raise 3 children are not coming back, not because "they took 'er jebs", but because we as human population got more griddy and overpopulation.
According to some of the comments here, some of you guys need to turn off Fox news, get a passport and go out and meet the world outside your borders, you will be surprised that the world is not what you thought it was, and you have a lot to learn.
