So I've started another thread about the problems on my new 150cc. The consensus is it's a carburetor issue. It seemed worthy of a separate thread: I just realized I was supposed to be running +octane fuel. I've been running 83 I think.... whatever the cheap stuff is at most stations. Dumb mistake, I know. Is that probably why it's stalling/not starting, or is this no big deal, tweak the carburetor like mentioned in the other thread, and put the right fuel in for the future? Should I siphon the tank, and + octane will fix my issues? Should I put in some kind of additive or cleaner or something to alleviate any damage I've done?

most parts stores sell octane boost just add to tank why dump the tank ?

Super Hornet 150cc . . Compression Ratio 9.20:1 . . low-octane gas should be sufficient. High-octane gas is actually diluted (slightly less energy) to delay ignition in high compression engines.

True. In my bikes, or any small engines for that matter, I always run ethanol-free or "marine" gas. The carb issues we so frequently experience such as varnish/gumming up can usually be avoided by not using gas with ethanol. This gas usually has an octain rating around . I have had zero problems running this, even on a custom machined 80cc bbk piston/head i did for a "high" compression setup i had a few years back.

Kind of ridiculous when you think about it. Who in their right mind would intentionally feed their engine ethanol-diluted fuel?

Ok thanks. I've been running 10% ethanol as well as low octane actually. So I'll make sure to get ethanol free.

in my opinion, the only reason to run high octane in your scoot would be to prevent preignition and/or dieseling.
83 octane will be just fine if you aren't experiencing the above symptoms.
i've run both grades in my scoot, and the higher octane seemed to give a slightly better performance, but i usually stuck with the lowest grade available (not sure if it was 83 or not).

83 is fine, not enough compression on these engines to have engine knocking issues. I run 91 on mine, it's the lowest available here.

My bad, it's and 98 here since early 2000' and about the ethanol-dilueted fuel i have also some thoughts about it because in some places the bensin dont smell the same, for example i do a refuel yesterday and the fuel smell like burned rubber with some alchool smell like. A another example my neighbor have a old triumph wich he just restaurted with very good quality parts from UK Triumph center and he show me the gas cap, all rusted inside out on the surface so he tell me that something is wrong with the fuel nowdays
