My elite is really cold blooded, when it's warm out it starts fine but when it reaches below 50 it will start but it's hard to keep running, would adjusting the carburetor help? This bike has 1900 original miles and has never been to the shop as far as I know.
Which screw on the carb adjusts the air/ratio, I had the cover off yesterday and I seen 2.

Global warming isn't happening anytime soon. In the town I live in its almost life threatening to ride a scooter that only runs 25mph most of the time and goes 0- top speed in 10 minutes.

I have a 2013 Taotao thunder 50, does the emission control stuff on the bike take away power? If so would it hurt to remove it? Also, this engine performs a lot different than my old scooter that has the same engine in it. This new one barely reaches 35mph my old one will go almost 45 the new one just sounds like it has no guts at all

Does anybody even use these forums anymore? I've noticed since it switched from the old name that I hardly get any replies like I used to.

Scotttx I had the issue with backfire and excessive fuel use before air filter switch. This is ridiculous on a full tank of gas don't matter if it's city or highway miles I get between 55-61 miles out of a tank of fuel.

I have changed all the fuel and vacuum lines but I didn't think about the fuel valve. My scooter has 7,900 miles on it now and I have never replaced it. Its an inexpensive part so I might just go ahead and order one anyway.
As for my carb, I've never touched it, I have noticed that my fuel consumption has increased over the past 6 months I just haven't figured out why yet.
How many miles to a tank do these normally get? I know there has to be someone else out there that owns a Nitro 150

Does anyone know about how many miles you should get on a tank of fuel with a stock TOMOS Nitro 150 with 7,900 miles on it? I ran out of fuel recently and I got 61 miles out of a full tank of fuel.
The bike runs good but it does seem like it's running a little rich you can tell because of the smell of the exhaust, I have checked the valve gaps their ok, changed air cleaner, spark plug and I've replaced all the rubber hoses going to the carb.

Alleyoop> There is no fuel mixture screw on the carburetor. Also I took the cover off today to get a better look at the carb and I don't have an ACV valve on the side.
I'm only getting between 60 and 75 miles on a tank of fuel with in town riding, is that good or bad?

None of the vacuum lines have holes in them I replaced them all last summer. My idle varies, normally it's around 1800, but then sometimes it idles really low, it doesn't matter how it idles it still backfires. Another thing I have a question about, why is that when one headlight lo beam goes out they will come on for 2 seconds then shut off? And I have bought new headlights but all I can find are 35/35, their supposed to be brighter but the stock 25/25 were and I can't find them

Yes, It does have an ACV valve, what can I do with that? I had someone tell me awhile back that was an accelerator pump

The exhaust is not leaking. I replaced the gasket and I can cover the exhaust tip and the engine dies.

I have a 2010 Tomos Nitro 150, right now the body has about 7,500 miles on it, the engine has around 1,000 on it since I fixed it. For some reason when you let up on the throttle it backfires out the exhaust, recently I have replaced the head, the intake valve, head gasket and rings. Since fixing the bike it has done this, the carburetor does not have an air/fuel mixture screw on it just the idle control screw. I have also replaced the air filter and checked the intake and vacuum hoses for leaks, it has no leaks.
What would cause it to do this? Would the valve gaps not being adjusted correctly make this happen? Could the exhaust valve be to loose? Any help would be appreciated, this is my only means of transportation and I ride year round.

[replyingto=gitsum]gitsum[/replyingto]gitsum> I've always done all the normal maintenance myself, I changed all the factory oil at around 300 miles. I do normal oil changes about every 2000 miles, I've always used 10w 40 full synthetic oil in the engine. I change the gearbox oil after every 2 oil changes, I have also had an Iridium plug in the engine since I took out the stock one at about 1000 miles. The issue for me was not knowing that I had to adjust the valve clearance after so many miles...It was an expensive lesson to learn but once I get it up and running again I will be on top of that. BTW thanks for the link to that part. I called TOMOS USA and a lot of their parts are unavailable for a couple months because they are moving a warehouse. The part from them was gonna cost $159.00 for complete head with valves and springs. I ended up finding the right head from www.charmcityscooters.com, I used the TOMOS part number given to me by the local dealer to look it up but it doesn't have valves and springs installed, so I ordered it, along with an intake valve and head gasket for around $77 with shipping. That's a better deal then the local dealer, they were going to charge me $ for the three parts, plus it would have cost me gas money to make the 50 mile round trip. Once I get the parts in I will post an update here how things went once I get everything installed.
