PS: not sure why when I type a number for a carb jet, I get a smiley face. Example: # jet. That's not helpful! I notice other posts struggling with this, too. Not only a pain in the rear, but the result isn't helpful to anyone. As you can see, I got a smiley instead of a jet number. Can a tech/moderator look into this?

Leave the carb alone except for rejetting to a "# ninety-five" (approx). A bigger carb just makes it run worse, your air cleaner won't fit, and your factory carb is a better product than most aftermarket carbs. The performance gain isn't worth the hassle.

" Whats up with this Chinese anyway it's all cheap junk"
Oh, calm down! It's cheap, sure, but that's why you're riding a scooter and not a Harley! Even Harley & BMW parts are made in China, and China knows how to make quality. The Chinese gy6 system is what makes scooting possible. Just compare gy6 prices with Vespa prices.

22hp from 200cc? The Kymco DOHC, fuel-injected 300cc puts out 28hp, and although it's faster, it's nowhere as cool looking as this machine! Also, this scooter can carry stuff on the floor, whereas most new-fashion scoots can't carry anything in the way of floor freight.

The Spree is a challenge. It's cute, but too limited in what you can do, and the brakes are hopeless. It also doesn't have a variator, so it's top-speed limited to about 25mph or 45km/hr no matter what you do to it. Try to get something with at least a disc brake on the front.

Cheap carbs bought online LEAK! There's more crappy, leaky carbs for sale on the internet than you'd believe. The best one is usually the one that came on your scoot from the factory. Try to fix it/clean it first before trying any online junk.

My experience has always been: don't change the stator - use the original one, it's matched to the rest of the electrical/ignition system.

New engines are cheap, cheaper than buying a new scooter. The basic 150cc engines can have different quirks (like your head bolt pattern, rocker arms, ignition), but they all have the same motor mounts, exhaust, intake, etc and can be swapped easily. Note you'll have to keep your original ignition system (the stuff behind the flywheel)

When you take the gear case apart, the clutch shaft (and the intermediate gears) just pull out by hand. You'll see immediately if anything is loose or broken.

It's a dead battery. Check it by jump starting from a car battery. It'll jump to life immediately. Motorcycles have crappy batteries, even the best ones are not very good.

Start with the obvious - the battery.

It's very difficult to improve the stock setup, and you'll save a lot of time and money just doing baby steps, as you're finding out. Slightly lighter rollers will improve acceleration slightly, but again, go slowly and gently with the mods. The accessory air filters never fit properly because of different frame dimensions. Changing the exhaust setup nearly always involves a lot of cutting and welding. No two scooter types have the same dimensions. Newer fuel injected Taiwanese scooters don't tolerate much modification since the FI computer is set up at the factory and can't be changed. The best way to do this stuff is to meet another rider who has done all the mods to an identical machine, and then you'll know what not to do!

Most 50ccs are slightly less at .05mm, which happens to be exactly the thickness of the side of a beer (or pop) can, so no need to buy an expensive feeler gauge, just pick up a pop can from the recycling bin.

Synthetic isn't needed (only for LearJets) but what IS needed is regular oil changes. My scoot takes .7 litres, and I change oil every 2000km. Don't let your oil get dirty - therein lies too many problems.
