Definitely seems to have been a vacuum leak... I pulled the vacuum line from the carbon canister(?) back to the fuel tank and it was not sealed. So I pulled the vacuum line going TO the canister, and tried to crank thw bike. As soon (immediately!) as I capped the vacuum line, the motor caught and started very easily!

Yeah, I've already done a valve adjustment; the belt is another story though... a tale of cheap aftermarket belts, counterfeit Gates, and a size that Gates doesn't market in the US...

Okay all, My scooter's turning over 5000 miles so I'm finally getting prepped to tear the rear plastics off and finish a proper PDI on the beast! It's getting hard to start in the morning (details below) so I want to do some troubleshooting while it's apart. so what should I look for or plan on replacing while I have it torn down?
244cc YY250T
I know the basics like fuel, filter, and vacuum lines. I already installed a new NGK plug about 1500 miles ago. Should I plan on swapping the fuel pump, CDI, or anything else? I would like to avoid having to take it apart soon...
Hard start: The first start of the day after a weekend or several days of driving has been getting progressively harder. It used to start instantly. Now, even after parking overnight, it takes a long time to start. But, after it is cranked, it runs perfectly all day long. Subsequent starts, even after the motor has completely cooled, are extremely easy. My thought is prossibly weak vacuum on cranking? Fuel evaporating/draining from the carb means it has to pump fresh fuel? Without the motor firing, the vacuum is too weak for strong fuel flow? Once the motor cranks, fuel flow is at full volume, the carb fills, and doesn't empty until an extended parking time? Sound reasonable? Should improving the vacuum help?

By the time the Bando's are in stock, I'll have worn out my scooter and be shopping for a replacement! When the weather was nice, I was averaging about 1000 miles/month. Work commute/between sites, and an occassional Saturday trip into town. Scooter weather will be here any day now (current ice storm aside) and I'll be back to putting the miles on the scooter. At 4500 now, by 10k, the bike will have paid for itself in fuel savings and making me profit. I'll be looking for a better scoot shortly afterward as long as this one doesn't blow up before then...

I've recently replaced the headlights on my Jonway YY250T and would like to share the experience. I have previously worked on replacing the bulbs on my scooter with LED bulbs. I've replaced the Taillight, License Plate Light, Running Lights, and Instrument Cluster lights with LEDs that are very bright but use less power than the original incandescent bulbs. This left me with a surplus on the charging system to use toward "Other Upgrades". In this case, brighter headlights! The factory 35W BA20D-style headlight bulbs are poor. Brightness is low which reduces visibility to other drivers, while the reduced brightness makes morning/evening/night driving impossible. One of my bulbs had the low-beam element broken and it needed to be replaced anyway. I purchased a pair of replacement compatible bulbs from an overseas dealer, but they had manufacturing defects that rendered them useless for this application. On tearing the front end down previously, I noted that the headlight buckets were keyed for automotive style H4 bulbs. Keeping this in mind, I researched online and found that H4 bulbs could be purchased in 35W, 45W, and much higher wattages. After calculating the power I had available from the LED bulb replacements, I selected the 45W, also partially due to my concern that any higher might melt the plastics. Parts - 45W H4 bulb, H4 plugs to splice into the wiring harness, and factory bulb for comparison: [img src=" Factory bulb in socket on bike: H4 bulb mounted in same socket: Splicing H4 plug into factory wiring harness with heat shrink ready to cover the joint: Closeup of H4 bulb in headlight bezel: The finished product: I haven't driven in low-light conditions yet to observe a difference, but can verify that the beam is much brighter than with the factory bulbs when projected against the garage wall. The beam is focused perfectly for both high and low beams. The only issue is that my scooter doesn't follow normal headlight wiring color code and now the high and low are reversed. Not an issue, I'll live with it until I tear the front end down again. Overall, I'm happy so far; I want to take it for a ride around the neighborhood after dark sometime to see just how much difference it makes.

Doesn't make me feel very confident since mine came in a plastic zip-lock bag and no Gates sleeve. >:-( Yes yours is most likely a fake. Always go to a well known dealer such as partsforscooters who distribute gates belts. They got a bunch of different ones in stock. go get yourself two and keep one for a spare. I'm already a big PartsForScooters fan due to their fast turnaround and great customer service. Unfortunately, they don't sell the Gates belt for my scooter yet. I've talked to fugaziiv here on the board in my other thread about my recent belt failure and have been told they will be stocking either Gates or Bando belts soon... Looking forward to their getting it in stock. I just never thought belts would be a commodity worth counterfeiting.

Hmmm... I already have the 110v Harbor Freight impact... The 12v is $25... and I have a coupon for 25% off... :-D Although I can swap a belt without pulling the variator by compressing the clutch spring and letting the belt hold it... I've done that a couple of times now.

Final update: I emailed Parts For Scooters who sold the generic belt and showed them the picture and within an hour they offered to refund me for the belt. I have been happy with the quick turnaround and service I've received from them, both in shipping my order, and in handling the issue I encountered. They seem to be a very good place to do business with.
I was also told they plan to begin stocking Bando belts in the near future so that's some good news...

When I ordered my replacement belt last week, I wasn't aware that there were counterfeit belts. Now, I've received the new belt and am curious if this one will leave me stranded again... I purchased this Gates Powerlink belt: www.ebay.com/itm/300889885947/via seller excaliburmotorsports. What puzzled me when I opened the belt, I noted that the edge that rides against the pully faces had a peculiar sheen. I've attempted to photograph this, but it is difficult to get the same effect through a camera. Looking even closer, the belt appears to be made out of a porous foam-like material. Seeing this, I begain reading online and found several threads on the old scoot-dawg site referencing counterfeit Gates belts. Now, I am concerned due to several points. Differences in Trademark markings on the belt, general appearance of side face on belt, and lack of a carboard sleeve (Mine was shipped bare in a plastic bag) on the belt I received... Is this genuine or a fake?

Just to make sure I'm clear on the issue and final analysis: You serviced the Variator and replaced old rollers with new Dr. Pulley sliders, and replacing the factory Gates belt with a new 'el cheapo' brand belt 'while you were in there'. Within 50 miles said 'cheap' belt failed. You re-installed the 'old' gates belt to get the scoot home, but left the cover off for the short ride. Upon arriving home you discovered some severe 'mystery' wear on the belt. Subsequent investigation revealed that without the cover on, a part of the center stand was allowed to make contact with the belt, causing the wear. Final conclusion is the 'new' belt was just plain junk and simply failed, and the 'wear' on the gates belt was a result of the cover not protecting the belt allowing the center stand to make contact, not a symptom of the initial belt failure. Sound about right? Exactly! Except Dr. Pulley rollers instead of the sliders.

I just got my diploma today; I'm now an official Doctor of Idiocy...
So... watching the belt path with the bike on the center stand and there is NOTHING in the path. <Scratch head> <Sudden flash of "Doh!> With the center stand up, the stand rides DIRECTLY on the bottom of the belt causing the furrow I saw. So basically the bike is okay. The cheap belt I bought to keep on hand as an emergency spare must have just been straight-up JUNK resulting in the initial failure. Nothing but Gates for me now thank you very much.
Now back to our regularly scheduled scootering.

Now since you rode it without the cover I wonder if something was hanging or maybe one of the guide pins that hold the cover in place had come partially off and hanging down to cause those tears in the middle of the belt. I looked at that, and could see nothing around the housing hanging loose... All the guide pins are very securely in place. If I find anything interesting tonight with my video attempt, I'll post that up on Youtube and link it here... My main thought if it is even possible, could the belt be riding up too high in the pulley? Thereby abrading against the inner face of the CVT housing. I've just ordered a new belt (again), a Gates Powerlink. I can't do anything until that gets in so I'm back in the truck now that the weather is turning nice for scootering here.
