Mine looks like the first picture you posted. Does the pickup on the outside determine when it fires the spark plug???

resetting the valves did the trick the exhaust valve was very tight!!! Thanks again for all your help!!!

On a 2-stroke, is it the trigger on the OUTSIDE of the flywheel that creates the spark or is it one of the stator coils INSIDE the flywheel???

Is it also possible that these symptoms are caused by a cdi unit that is no longer advancing the timing???
I am just trying to diagnose with your help before I start throwing parts at it.
The belt looks fine, but the whole engine and case gets hot. It revs up fine on the stand and takes off nice, but falls on its face after that and only goes 25. I had the vacuum advance on a car come off one time and it made the engine run hot....thats why I asked about the CDI.

Could the valves being out of adjustment make the scooter start hard, not idle well, run hot and lose power?
That is what mine is doing. I have cleaned the carb, changed the plug, checked the variator and made sure the brakes were not hanging up on it.
The engine gets extremely hot!!! That belt housing cover cannot be touched without burning you. It used to go 40+ and now it will barely do 25.........HELP!!
BTW, full synthetic oil changed regularly and synthetic gear lube.

Should I swap the stators in the engines? Would that be the easiest thing??

the stator plugs are NOT the same. Although there are 7 wires coming out of each stator, they are different colors too!! HELP!!

Is the CPI engine on an MZ Moskito the same and the engine on a CPI Oliver?

I just got a CPI Oliver 50cc scooter with 3,600 miles on it. It died on the guy that I got it from. It is NOT drawing oil out of the oil tank. The hose coming off the bottom of the oil tank is empty, yet when i take it off, oil flows freely. There are no obstructions in the hose that I can see. I even ran a wire down it to check. The throttle cable is working the oil injector. It will run for about 30 seconds then dies. I only did this once because I suspect it is not getting any oil.
How do I know for sure?
If I mix the oil in the gas, what ratio should I use?
