I thought I would share with the group an unusual circumstance with a scooter. A guy brought in a 139qmb-engined scooter this weekend saying it turned over really slow and that the battery was new and charged. So, I started at the battery and diagnosed that nothing was wrong with the power wire to the solenoid, nor was there anything wrong with the solenoid itself. Then I determined that there was nothing wrong with the starter wire or any of the connections. I checked all the grounds and they were all good....so I replaced the starter and STILL had the same problem. I took off the variator cover and pulled the bendix out. I put a dab of grease in each bearing and put it back together and it now works great!!!
I have worked on hundreds of scooters and this is the first time I have run across this.
I thought I would share in case anyone is having a similar problem!!

Thank you for sharing, I actually have been having a somewhat similar problem after installing a BBK and was suspecting the bendix gear... will definitely go in there and grease it up and see what happens now!

So was the bearings rusty ?
Now with a BBK you will have more compression especially for the kits that reuse the 40mm or 49cc head with smaller combustion chambers as to why some opto for an extra base gasket or two to reduce compression . Some of the after market CDIs have advanced timing and I have read for some starting was not as easy as before the mod
