Then 150 Znen that I had when it got hard to start was valves needed adjusting. Did that and it started perfectly.

I got in a 180 mile ride yesterday, big circle part of which was through Joshua 'tree Nat. Mon. from below sea level to over 5000 feet.

I was thinking more about your proposed trip as I rode 160 miles through the southern California countryside today. I am of the opinion that a sort of pack saddle arrangement would be lighter and simpler to make. For that trip on the Topper I took an old army duffel bag and made two large bags that hung on straps across the seat. It worked very well and was really easy and cheap to make. Also consider the safety/risk factor of carrying that much extra gas in case of an accident. Just some thoughts.

My feelings are keep the weight down. I don't know what your fuel tank capacity is but most of the time gas stations are not that far apart. I would not carry much extra gas along. My Reflex is 3.2 gal. and I get mid 60s mpg, I don't carry any extra. The 150 Znen that I had never needed anything but valve adjustment. It would maintain 45-50 easily. Even 40 on six percent grades. So 40 mph average is easily doable. I use a small dome tent, folding camp chair, good air mattress and battery powered blower to inflate it plus good sleeping bag (all stuff I already had). In 1961 I rode a Harley Davidson Topper from NW AR to NE KY about 700 miles each way (engine let go about 50 miles from home) . I believe today's Chinese scoots are far superior to the Topper.

I like the idea myself. Sounds like a lot of fun. For myself I'd choose a 250. The 150 that I had previously was good for an honest cruise of 45-50. When we went full time RV I upgraded to a 250 because I knew that there would be times I had to go on freeways just to get where I wanted to go. Last June/July I did a 5319 mile cross country to Arkansas from SW Oregon and back and did as much as 550 miles in a day. I ran mostly 55-60. I did have to take I 80 from Winnamucca NV to east of Salt Lake City--there is no other road through that area. I carried camping gear and camped along the way. (After a bad experience with a Refex clone I bought a used Honda Reflex. They are fairly bullet proof.)

Hi JR. Just talked to my brother in Brentwood south of Fayetteville. They got 1/2 inch of sleet with 6 inches of snow on top of it and still falling. Makes this 56/38 temps in the Palm Springs area seem not so bad! In a week we will be back in Yuma with 70/55s. Glad you are prepared. And thanks for the great job you (and Alleyoop) do for the scooter community. The Reflex is still running strong. Has needed nothing but tires and oil changes. I had a Znen ZN 150T before I went to 250s. It was good for steady 45-50 mph and about 80mpg. Top of near 60. It was a touring style with a good windshield. I went to a 250 so I could get on freeways if necessary. Some places we go there is no other way to get there except freeways. Sky

That is very pretty country you are going into, beautiful red rock country with lots of petroglyphs. We drove through there in our motor home in early Oct. after they closed all of the national parks. All of the tour companies were scrambling for places to take their customers, many of them from foreign countries who got screwed by our government. That will hurt our visitor business for a long time. There were a couple of young ladies from Switzerland who camped next to us and they explained how that would effect us for the long haul. One was a travel agent. Sorry, I digressed. There are some nice camp grounds there. I didn't unload my Reflex that trip. Too crowded. Enjoy your outing!

I'm following this one closely. I hope they are able to pull it. They have an old GM plant they plan to use but no production equipment yet. Only one or more prototypes. I like the concept.

I bought a '07 Reflex in March of this year with 15,250 miles on it. Since then I have put almost 9000 more including a 5300 mile cross country trip. Zero problems, just a set of new tires and oil changes. That is SO different from the yy250T that I had before!!!

As T150 mentioned above, I just spread the rear pulley and push the belt down to hold it apart and the belt will slip right over the variator. Very simple and easy.

The three cylinder Suzuki is what is in most Metros. Absolutely the simplest and easiest to work on of any car I've ever owned (and I have owned a LOT of different cats!!!) Some had four cyl. Suzuki engines.

I guess then you have never driven one, Kat. Ours will cruise easily at 80 and consistently get 40 to 45 mpg. I know that won't match the '92 Metro we had that gave us a good 55 mpg. But they don't make those any more. The Metro three cylinder is a 1000 cc. They said the Elio is 900 cc. But it must be something like that. They are both rated at 55 hp. The Smart is 1000 cc also and 78 hp.

Now, Kat, don't knock our Smart too much. We love it and it fill our needs much better than an Elio. It does look like a really fun machine. Much like the old Morgan three wheelers in England.
